My favorite of the bunch..lol, though I personally think that VI is the best in the series. :3

I loved Final Fantasy IX, though it proved to be a little boring in some parts~
Decent game that I want to replay but the horrible battle load times* mixed with frequent encounters puts a damper on my spirits every time I think about it. It's unfortunate, there's a lot of love and soul put into FF9.

* I timed how long it took in a recording once. In the last dungeon from battle transition start to regaining control on the map took ~30 seconds and that was Zidane acting first and using Flee! immediately without interruption.

One of the worst professionally-made JRPGs I've played. The characters are totally forgettable at best and repugnant at worst (hi zidane). The gameplay is utterly broken, the random encounter rate is obscene, and the story is a predictable snoozefest.
One of my favourite Final Fantasies. I loved the feeling of adventure and the world and it's lore was really well done. The characters were fun and it was a change from the darker games in the series.

It's my third fave FF after 3/6 and 7.

Second personal favorite FF for me (IV being my absolute champ). I really, REALLY enjoyed this game. For someone who grew up playing the originals at a young age and seeing nothing, at the time, but the series going into a more futuristic / realistic setting with VI, VII & VIII (although I enjoyed all those games too), FFIX was a welcome back to the good ol’ days when it was all about the story, experience, and the exploration – what an RPG should mostly focus on.

Although, looking back on it a bit, I agree a little with GRS. The battles, although more simplistic and more class-defined, do take a while to finish because of the long loading times / ATB speed. Also, along with Adon, there were a few parts that “dragged” a little. But other than that, I still love this game.

For me, though, FFIX was the last, good Final Fantasy game that I’ve played since. For some reason, the series just…kinda died for me after this game. Although I did play a little of FFX and FFXII, I just never really enjoyed as much as I used to.

*sigh* Oh well.

B—But I love “Zidane!”

He was what Irvine from FF8 could never hope to accomplish.
I'm interested in hearing about the mechanics and how they're broken, actually. I've been playing through it recently, and it seems pretty well put together from a gameplay angle. I've enjoyed it so far, which is more than I can say for a lot of jrpgs.

my biggest gripe with ff9 is how every character besides the big four is so completely ignored past a point. Amarant and Freya in particular seemed like they had the potential to be hella interesting, but it's as if the game wants to tell you that paying attention to them is a bad idea.

I can only speak for myself on this point, but the way to learn Blue Magic for FF9 took a step back, considering FF8, and it's item intensiveness not to mention my propensity to use CodeBreaker/GameShark. You don't have to be attacked with the ability anymore, which is good, but getting critters to critical health so that they are within "Eat" range is it's own annoying strategy. I assume "Cook" doesn't require an enemy to be at critical, but I'm not sure where the threshold is.

Anyway, the FF I've had a hankering to re-play is FFT. This has been since my review of Synthetic Odyssey, back in July of 2012.
Thanks for the opinions, y'all! I've been thinking of getting it, and I wanted to see what people here thought of it.

I hate frequent encounters (I think most people do), especially if they take a while, but overall, I think I'll get it anyway (if I can get some money, that is).

You really should pick it up if you enjoyed any of the previous FF's. The combat speed isn't as horrifying as we make it all out to be.

(And don't listen to Sali; HE'S EVIIIIILLLLLLL!!!)

Hey, Quina was one of my mains, bro! She was actually pretty useful if you took the time out to properly use her.

Haha! You're funny. Sometimes I wonder if an old-school game stole your girlfriend or what... Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you gone on record before stating FFX is one of the best of the series? (Certainly you seem to regard the 'X' games better than their predecessors.) What's funny is that both games suffer from the same exact faults you mention. (Even FFXII does) But this doesn't prevent each game to be fun on its own regard. - Nah, but you don't care about that. As long as it's old-school and popular, you just hate it. =P

On topic. Despite all its faults, I think it's one of the most beautiful looking games in the franchise. The art direction was something different; everything is so colorful and glamorous. *_* I've been thinking on playing it again myself if not just for that.
