[RMMV] Hi everyone. Here's my plan/ hope...

author=Mirak
Welcome to the forum I hope you don't get C&D'd too fast!

yeah on the off-chance i ever actually finish the game AND release it (for free obviously), if it got big enough that companies took note and sent a C&D it'd be a one-in-a-million shot anyways. at this rate i'm just using the source material as motivation and see how far i get.

[RMMV] Hi everyone. Here's my plan/ hope...

Hello fam. My history with RPGMaker is that I put about 20-30 hours into RMVX Ace a couple years back. Probably 15 minutes into the actual game. Once I got to the point where I needed to create battles the tutorial I was using got confusing and I gave up. Didn't help that I was only able to work on the PC side of my Mac, and switching partitions was a pain in the butt.

But now I'm back with RMMV from the Steam sale. Instead of creating an RPG from scratch, I looked at a couple of my favorite fantasy book series and decided to create an "Unauthorized Visual Novel" through RMMV of one of them. Won't reveal which book series yet, but let me explain through an example:

Let's say I was going to create an "Unauthorized Visual Novel" for The Hunger Games. I would go through the first book, chapter by chapter, creating the order of events in RMMV. Keeping all dialogue and action points from the book, but also adding a little flourish of side quests and additional dialogue and battles and such. In a perfect world, if you decided you didn't want to read The Hunger Games, you could download my game and play through it, getting the story from the book, with my little tweaks and additions.

Maybe this is something that people are already doing, but I thought it would be cool. I work in the film/TV industry and love diving into the mythology/lore of different franchises. I thought this could be a cool opportunity to teach myself the program (since I will be forced to troubleshoot based on the needs of the chapter of the book), really dig into the lore of one of my favorite series, and use my creative skills in a bunch of different ways (writing, art, organization, etc).

I plan on adapting a 40 page section of the book (creating maps, events, characters, etc) before going back through the game and adding little additions throughout to make the most base version of the game. At that point I hope to upgrade the art to match the series, then maybe release the "Official Alpha". All that being said, that's a ton of work and I hope I can keep my head up through the marathon. Hoping my love of the source material will get me through.

Hope to become more active in the forums as I continue to dive into this project.
