[RM2K3] setting a functional timer
i'm trying to create an event where the protagonist has to exit an area before a timer counts down - otherwise, the game ends. so far though, i've been having a lot of trouble getting the timer to work. it doesn't show up anywhere on the screen after i set it. i consulted a thread about how timers work in rmvx and tried to follow the instructions, but i still can't get the timer to show up. some help would be appreciated!

i have an event where an npc climbs out of bed and runs across the room & the protagonist can then go over and talk to them. once they leave the room, an item spawns that is necessary to continue the plot. this event works perfectly if the protagonist stays in the room the whole time, but if she leaves and comes back, the npc is in the bed again with the dialogue for the second part of the event, and because the npc can't move out of the room like they could if the event was happening in the right place, they don't leave and the item doesn't spawn. how can i make sure the npc stays in the right place after the first part of the event even if the protagonist leaves the room?
[RM2K3] problems with doors
i'm trying to make an event where a door can be entered multiple times. because i don't have an animated door sprite, i have the screen fade out, a key sound play, and the screen appear again in the room the door leads to. i've been having a few different problems getting it to work, though. either
1. the event doesn't repeat or it continuously repeats (i.e., if the character leaves the room she's immediately teleported back to it)
2. i can enter and exit the door with no trouble, but when i try to enter the door a second time it gets stuck on the first part of the event (the screen fading out)

[RM2K3] player character gets stuck after teleport
i noticed an unusual problem on a new map i made where the character is unable to move after being teleported there (she can change directions but can't do any actual moving.) i made sure all the tiles were passable and checked to see if an autorun event was causing the freeze, but even after checking all the events and making sure the right tiles were passable, i still can't fix the problem. i have several other teleports that work just fine, so i'm not sure why this is giving me trouble.
[RMK23] making an npc disappear after moving
i have an event set up where an npc walks all the way to the top of the screen after a line of dialogue. when she gets to the top of the screen, she gets stuck there, and i've been trying to find a way to make it so she disappears as if walking offscreen. i've been messing around with switches for a while now, and it usually results in her graphic disappearing right away instead of at the top of the screen and she either doesn't move or moves really slowly instead of at 8 which i have the 'move event' speed set to. i looked at a bunch of beginner's tutorials (i'm new to this) but none of them really helped.
[RM2K3] upper/event layers and test play show black screens
i don't have any trouble editing the lower layer of the maps, but the upper & event layers are completely black. they look like this:
i did manage to blindly put a spawn point in the event layer, but when i test play it, the game itself is a black screen. the title screen loads just fine.
i'm not sure what to do. i've looked all over and so far haven't seen anyone have this issue - the closest i got was a thread about someone's rmxv game test giving them a black screen, and the response was essentially "huh that's weird" before the thread was closed without a clear solution. if you could help me out i would really appreciate it!
