So I guess the "Images looking for feedback" thing on the Dev portal failed, eh?

The "what" on the "what" now???
Well...it's hard for me to know what this thing is when it's really not easily excisable... I mean, I just noticed it as of right now and still wouldn't even find it unless I looked for it rather hard and long. I think it just needs to be more noticeable for it to be put to any use.
(Also, the "Screenshot Topic" more than makes up for this entire feature alone. If I needed any personal feedback on a particular screenshot, I rather go "there".)

It is actually pretty easily accessible. I just wasn't aware it was a thing. Well, I guess I know how to increase my post count now~
it's not a thing of access it's a thing of promotion
what I'm saying is make it the Late Nite Doritos Snack Strong Image Feedback Crunchtime (Now in Taco and Cheeseburger)

Hm... we could make the screenshot topic more aimed at people without game profiles (newbies who need help in getting their games up to standard) and filter the rest through the dev portal instead.
We are at the point of needing a new screenshot topic soon, anyway. It's over 300 pages long, after all.

Blame the people who post screenshots that don't really need C&C. I'm sure lots of people would be happy to point out flaws.
yeah, I like the concept of the thing on the dev portal better but it's irritating that a lot of people just seem to view it as a method of viral marketing (putting up their title screens, etc)

whoah
today I learned we have a development portal
Same here. I always just clicked on one of the choices that pop up under it.
So kentona, how do you figure it failed ... is there any way to know whether the posts to those images came after visiting the portal?
It could be helpful to have "feedback search expiration" so that after a while the image is removed from the feedback list.
honestly I think the best option right now is just to let it get some momentum and exposure
encourage its use and get the word out about its existence because right now I think this status has clued more than a few people in on the fact that it's even a thing
then you'll get more traffic and more real-ass screenshots looking for real-ass critique

but... I announced it months ago, when I released it. :<
also, if you click the IMAGES FEEDBACK header, you get a summarized chronological list of comments on said images.

I was trying to replicate some of the "feel" of the screenshot thread in the forum. The formatting still needs work, though.

A few comments and suggestions about the image feedback page:
- I think it would make sense to have the thumbnails of all the images that are looking for feedback should be somewhere up top of the page.
- Maybe the thumbnail of the image being commented could be to the right of the comment or right under the comment, if such a thing can be coded. The latter would be able to replicate the "feel" of the screenshot topic, while the earlier at least keeps the user information where people are used to seeing it.
- Perhaps this page could be accessed directly without having to go through the development portal by adding a link to it under "Development".

have you done anything about it since then? honest question, I haven't been around to see whether you have. getting something like this implemented and popularized is far from a fire-and-forget sort of thing, in any case!

this is an excellent, excellent idea (and also basically a no-brainer). I barely ever click on the headers themselves -- to me they're basically just the container for all the links beneath them. I'm probably not the only one, either.

I posted about it once or twice in the screenshot thread (I figured the people using the screenshot thread might be the best candidates for using the Images feedback thingy).
I did leave it alone partially because I wanted to see if the Development portal became popular on its own.

The Community portal is the only one I've been clicking lately since it gives a quick look at the Latest Topics, Posts and Statuses. It is actually my favorite RMN non-user made page other than the homepage.
I pretty much live in the Community portal, by the way. When I want to find a game I click on the game portal but other than that I don't use the portals.
I love it when people is all like: "I didn't know that existed" like with the "latest posts" section or now with the Development portal. I mean, how hard can it be to browse around and see what's there? Here's a tip, if you place the cursor on top of something and it changes into a little hand, chances are it's a link, and it can take you to a whole magical new place. Try it out sometime, people! ;)
So yeah, the thing pretty much failed. It seems the kind of dynamic that exist in the screenshots topic just can't be applied to game profiles, despite our best efforts... Simply put, people don't like to give/take criticism. The major offenders are usually newbies that besides not knowing what the development screen section is for (risking being "mean" when you have to tell them), they simply are not in-tune with the idea that feedback is to help them to improve their games. They come here with a "Screw you, It's my game and I do what I want" mentality, and if they don't lash-out they simply ignore any input... Like if rmn was just a hosting site for their crappy games or something.
Then there are the people that know how things work and usually welcome and reply to criticism, yet they almost never edit their screens. The idea is to take that criticism and improve upon your work in "real time" as it often happens of the screenshots topic, and once both ends are satisfied with the results, take the screenshot down (maybe); Not just leave the screen there to gather dust! (And hopefully pageviews, right?) The best I've gotten, is a "Oh, yeah, I'll fix it when the game is done" answer, at which point I just *sigh* and move on.
I guess the question now is: Does the Development screen section deserve a second chance? ...I doubt we'll see different results.
