Dental treatment is always expensive. And can easily get toxic .. I mean, c'mon, they still do amalgam fillings!

You could go to Mexico and get dental care for really cheap, that's what we did a few years ago when my sister needed dental care. Then again, we live in South Texas and you live in Canada...

Move to a country with free dental care for children.
England, the NHS provides all dentistry free to children. But doesn't Canada have a Universal Health System?
There is no way that the work and materials involved in making and fitting a single set of braces could possibly amount to anywhere close to $5000 worth. Were you paying for the mining of the metal used too? Or is this just a US thing <_<
