Yea, same here! Especially when it's someone younger than me... my reaction is like 50% inspired, 50% envious.
You get used to it, eventually. Not Really

Well, thank goodness I'm safe.

Those amazing people only inspire me to do great endeavours myself. ^^

That's the positive way to look at it :)

It usually depends on the mood I'm in! If I've caught a snag on my own work, seeing other people make really cool stuff can make me jealous in a super petty way... but sometimes it's exactly the boost of inspiration I need to get back in the game, y'know?

I specifically remember playing through a couple games from here last summer that really jazzed me up to start making stuff again, and start posting again too.

So much this! Though, right now, I'm in super-petty-jealousy mode.

Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D

There's no need to get into petty mode. Whenever you start to feel jealous, use that as fuel for your projects. Sitting there feeling upset or sorry for yourself is like dumping gasoline on the ground instead on filling your tank with it.

Trust me; it's really therapeutic.

EDIT: I just noticed my post sounded like a direct response to Marrend. This was not directed at anyone in particular.

You're totally right, but that's easier said than done :P

It's even worse with people younger than me, 'cuz it reminds me of how far behind I (think I) am!

You're magical to me.

I was totally tempted to put up a near-identical status that says "man, people more creative and talented than me keep making amazing looking games. it's uplifting"

That's the spirit!

Best case scenario is to use other people's successes as energy to propel yourself forward. When I catch myself feeling jealous, I remind myself that other people are making great games that perhaps only they can make, and that there may be games out there that only I can make, so I should keep going forward. And that I should be cheering on people instead of being envious, because my envy isn't going to produce anything worthwhile, while cheering them on may help them ^_^

and everyone is younger than me!

my fallback for my ego is 'welp, I guess I made a p.popular game once already, so I have that going for me, which is nice.'

Ahhhhhh, yea, you're definitely right. It's something I'm slowly learning after experiencing it over and over, haha.

If you're in a bad mood it's easy to sit there and be jealous of people who've done cool stuff! it's hard to remember that they've probably done the same... and of course actually acting on your jealousy never helps anybody and only makes everybody mad.

(I also totally agree that we all have our own games that only we can make~)

Yup! And you're still pretty young, y'know, luckily game mak is something that doesn't get too much more difficult with age :P
This status would actually make for a nice topic discussion as well. How people deal with their envy/jealousy of another dev's project and how it influences their own gam-mak pursuits.
