I stopped writing the SNEWS because at the time gender and #gamergate was the most topical subject and I didn't want to write about it

Totally understandable. I'm sure there's enough stuff to cover multiple issues now, though! Did you hear about some new RM engine that came out? I think it's called MX or something...
yeah the other thing is that I am completely out of touch, instead of just mostly out of touch with the scene.

You're magical to me.

Haha, that's totally fair~ Luckily, we have lots of events going on to write about now! And libby's dating game, and the podcasts, and probably lots of art topics, not to mention all the games that have come out recently! Maybe some tuts or articles, too? I mean, hell, you could very easily just write that gender & inclusion is a popular topic - I don't think you gotta say anything else, that's why we have all the threads, haha.

So, in all some fairness, here is the SNEWS SPOTLIGHT for my planned interviewee:

Coming to you like a champagne supernova is our own oasis in a desert of failed games, rising like a morning glory: Red_Nova. They are the creator of many beloved games and crafter of many beloved articles. Anyway, here's Wonderwall:

RMN HISTORY:

I found and joined this site in September 2013 to share a game I'd been working on, but I didn't really become active in the community until January 2014. I thought it was the coolest thing to have individual game pages instead of forum topics, so I signed up immediately. Since then, I've been making games, participating in events, and hanging out with the community.

PERSONAL BLURB:

I've been writing stories ever since I was 10 years old (I'm 24 now). They were all stories that were supposed to be for games, but I wasn't aware of any development software until around 2011, when I found VX, which I got super excited and immediately bought and started work. Unfortunately, I fell into that beginner's trap of trying to make more than what I was capable of, and took a long hiatus where I instead focused on straight up writing, eventually completing a 300+ page novel and several short stories after a couple of years. But I wasn't happy with them, and I felt that I could have done so much more with them if they were games instead. Eventually, I scrapped them all, bought Ace, and and gave it another go. You can see the results of that here on RMN.

I like to focus on reinforcing a story through gameplay. Neither a story focused game, nor a game with a story. I've got a long way to go before I can do that consistently, but hey, I try. I typically go after games with strong characterization, as long, drawn out cutscenes bore me just as fast as no cutscenes do.

SPARE TIME:

When I'm not working on games? I like to draw characters and play RPGs. Whenever I'm able to, I try to take hikes and small backpacking trips.

FAVORITE FOOD:

Chocolate chip cookies. Those are my crack.

FAVORITE SAYING:

"Be the kind of person that, when your feet hit the floor in the morning, the Devil goes, 'Oh shit, he's up,'"

PET PEEVE:

All style, no substance games.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:

I have a tendency to get hurt a lot from things that shouldn't hurt me. Name any household (or outdoor) appliance and/or object. I can almost promise you I've been injured or nearly killed by it in some way.

Oh yeah, that's right, you did interview me last, haha!

So next issue are you gonna interview an unpopular person? That'd be... something!

I suppose I walked right into that one!
