Well howdy do. :)
So... My first post.
*awkward glances around the room*
Pssht, like this hasn't been done before.
My name is Matt and I'm 24. I am an avid gamer and my favourite genre is the mighty rpg. *wipes forehead* Now that's over and done with...
What I like about them is the interactive novel quality, the immersion and the engagement. I love final fantasy, but I do sometimes get a bit toey for some gameplay, lol. I like games that bring new things to the stage, and utilise classic cliche's in interesting ways.
Some of my favourite games from the past include Terranigma, Breath of Fire (3 I think it was, geez I can't remember!) Tales of Phantasia, Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Legend of Zelda (most of them, typical I know) and a few more that I can't remember off the top of my head (damn this TV zapped memory of mine...)
Some more recent ones that I just adore are Odin Sphere (anyone remember that? it seems to have vanished and I can't find a copy anywhere), Ookami... ah... Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo, Left 4 Dead, (shoot em ups can be ever so much fun)
Recently tried out some trials on xbox that got me a little excited, Eternal Sonata (omg, my battle system is already half invented! need more resources on this style of fighting) and Bastion looked alright. Torchlight is a nice take on the good ole adventure rpg, but it's like Diablo's prettier little sister or something, even has the same background music I swear. I'm just ranting now about the games I've most recently played... I'm gunna move on.
Okay, so I'm here because I've always wanted to make a game. In case you couldn't tell, I like to talk and have some good stories to tell. Always wanted Nobuo Uematsu to write the score with me. You know what it's like.
So I have three game concepts, one which has been worked on for three or four years, one that is a take on the zelda quest style of "Oh you need this huh? Go over here and do this thing that requires you to do this thing here and here you go! This was all just a sidequest really to get the key to this gate! Now onto the main quest!" but more fun than that, lol.
I've dabbled in TCG's (trading card games) and made some mechanics of my own but never had the patience or motivation to finish anything off, and I did have one game concept that now suits itself more towards an anime series (although it would still make a pretty cool final fantasy style game, and I say that hesitantly, I really just mean the whole 'epic' rpg thing).
So anyways, if you've read through all this, hi and thanks for your time :), and if you haven't hi and thanks for trying. :)
Now I'm off to discuss new battle mechanics (new for me, they've probably been done a hundred times) and cutting edge platforms that I know nothing about. :)
