My biggest concern with going commercial...

in general, when going commercial you'll need to expect that you won't be able to rely on freely-available resources. I don't think that repurposing a project containing unknown mystery resources into something commercial is ever a good idea, but I'm glad you're showing due diligence, at least.

I'm done

I'm sorry to hear it, but at the same time I feel like it's good to be able to recognize that you aren't getting anything out of the genre and refocus on something else. it can be incredibly hard to admit this to yourself, and coming to terms with it is incredibly mature. good luck with whatever else you decide to try!

I have to admit, though, that I hate to see people leave the hobby, even for a good reason. if the creative impulse ever swings back around to games, then I hope to see you again!

Future Spirits Part Deux

oh no! I hope you feel better soon

Why the hell am I writing a blog for this stupid game??

please don't be so hard on yourself! the fact that you learned from the original, and in fact learned so much that you can revisit it afterward and produce something that's already looking like such a massive hike in quality, is a big deal. it's going to be interesting comparing the two, and it definitely seems like excellent practice even besides that.

Lions don't hibernate

I mean, if Luchino would prefer not to get into specifics then speculating on things doesn't seem super useful. and choosing not to let negativity, or a bad atmosphere, or bad people get to you is way more difficult than it sounds -- even impossible, maybe! I've never been much good at it, at least.

it's a shame to see you go, but I hope that taking a break (permanent or otherwise) is good for your mindset and makes good things happen in your life. whatever you do from here on out, good luck!

WE DID IT

the actual process of testing this game, caught on actual film:

e: oh fuck I have makerscore now

please don't mistake me for a useful person

I am quitting Wyrm Warriors

something small-scale can definitely be a community game! casting back to the old rmvx forums, there were totally community games that revolved around a couple of members' characters doing something silly and self-referential. you'd get huge community-wide stuff like Who Killed Touchfuzzy, of course, but there were also plenty of Sevith & Jonny's Rockin' Adventures.

in general, you shouldn't have to worry about scale at all -- if it's fun for one or two hours (or half an hour, or fifteen minutes!), then it's fun, you know? your time spent on a game is never wasted, even if you have to quit or it winds up being smaller than you expected.
