be the kind of ass who, for those who listen, has actual substance and advice to their message.
don't be a clumsy, directionless ass. don't expect everyone to love you because of your no-nonsense attitude. you are not House MD. you are not Sherlock Holmes. you are not Robert Downey Jr.
don't be a hazy, substance-less ass who trumpets an unfounded, baseless opinion from the treetops. other people won't fill in your meaning for you.

If you're going to bother doing all that, wouldn't it be more effective to not be an ass? People don't listen to asses, as a rule. Even if they're correct. Just to spite them.

this post is more addressed to people like Fidchell, who want to be seen as the virtiolic but misunderstood genius but don't have the self-awareness to deliver. (the first mistake is wanting to be seen as a vitriolic but misunderstood genius. no one will ever give you that much credit, and if you give yourself that much credit you're fucking kidding yourself.)

I'm with Isrieri on the idea that being an ass is ineffective, but yea, if you're gonna be a jerk about something you better damn well be right about it.
I don't know. What Fidchell said was probably just a misunderstanding. But what can be said about you, going out of your way to make a status with the sole intention of calling him out? Not to mention you had already addressed this issue to him, but since you got no answer I guess you felt necessary to fish for a larger audience? ...tsk tsk tsk!

I think 'desperately smug' is the phrase that comes up when we talk about you. you rarely understand what's going on in these circumstances, but four times in five you hop in anyway playing like you know what's going on, trying to pass yourself off as being above it. you can't do that until you actually know what you're trying to be above.
