Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland DLC now available!

Wow, talk about not meeting deadlines, right? Some of you might remember that I annouced a Legionwood expansion pack, way back in late 2010. Although it ultimately ended up being cancelled due to hard drive failure, I managed to recover some of its assets a few months ago and, rather than doing the logical lazy thing and recycling them for Legionwood 2, I decided to piece them together and release the resulting mess.

So then, this is the Legionwood expansion I promised all those years ago but never actually delivered? Well, not really. But it's still a pretty cool addition to the Legionwood world.

Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland is an expansion pack/DLC for Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords. Featuring a huge new story dungeon set in the midst of the game's chaotic fourth act, as well as a considerable number of all new optional endgame quests, a revised final dungeon and over a dozen new Techs to learn, it expands the original game's playtime by at least three hours and adds several long awaited features to game, including a graphical world map and quest journal.

The main addition in Mysteries of Dynastland is the titular Dynastland dungeon, which takes place between the Sealed Library and Lost City Crebt areas in Chapter 4. This sprawling dungeon crawl is filled with new enemies, puzzles and challenges to test your skills against, and also reveals the never-before-seen backstory of Zanthus and his long lost homeland as your party searches for the mythical Purity Crystal, an ancient Precursor artifact rumoured to be able to manipulate time itself.

Other notable additions to the game include 12 brand new Techs, including unique Techs exclusive to certain characters, a new set of powerful Dynastland equipment, a late-game "scavenger hunt" quest that will take you to the furthest corners of the world, a complete overhaul and rebalancing of all late game content and an expanded final dungeon with a new, harder version of Castoth to fight -- in both the normal and "true" varieties. Overall, it pretty much turns the final act of Legionwood into a completely new game, which was one of my main goals as I was always rather unhappy with how rushed that part of the game turned out.

Anyway, if you're itching for some new adventures, you can grab the DLC here. Simply point the installer to your Legionwood directory and extract, overwriting files when prompted. In order to experience the new content at the appropriate difficulty level, I recommend either starting a new game or loading a game that was saved before the Sealed Library, though most of the new content except for the Quest Journal can still be accessed otherwise.

Check out these screenshots to see some of the new locations in the game:

And with that, I'm off to work on Legionwood 2 again. Happy adventuring! :)

That's actually an engine limitation. The Final Equipment in Legionwood 1 actually has the maximum Attack value set. Due to the damage formula the engine uses, it's quite hard for damage to exceed 6000 or so.

Did you know that by beating the Rift Entity, you've actually unlocked a much harder version of Castoth? It's supposed to challenge those who defeated the Rift Entity, but if you have an earlier save, try taking Castoth on through that, and he'll die much easier.

Beaten it and the game, completing everything. Micro-review

Story 3,5/5: Well, some good twist, decent PG depth and a very large amount of detail about pretty anything. The writing is truly great, it enhances the evaluation.

Gameplay 3,5/5: The very good AP system is a pro, but I found very boring boss fights and most of all, there is not a perfect "final weapon set". With my "strange" 3-dual wielders-1 all around mage party I had to keep in my bag two secrets swords to make decent damage after the secret boss and the final godlike sword was wielded for my sake in the last battle, DON'T DO IT. Not a great point. If you overpower your PGs you'll end up in ENDLESS fights with enemies meaning no harm and a ridicolous amount of hits needed to kill them.

Music 4/5: Perfect

Graphic 4/5: Very good, but very few, artworks in some cutscene and a well designed word.

I played quite every completed game here and Legion Wood stands comfortably in the top 15. Good work.

Just finished it and loved the game. The challenge of it along with a flexible class system kept me loving the gameplay. The story has a few good points and allows you to enjoy the characters. Fun music. Thanks for making it! I'm looking forward to the finished sequel.

I had two glitches that I hope still get fixed for new players. Two songs consistently causes the game to crash at certain points through the song. I found I could replace them to get through those parts of the game. They were OLR03.mid and OLR15.mid.

meisam your not using semicolon properly, and that's a laughing matter.

I'd like to give you my thanks for the wonderful game.
I just recently transferred files, and I noticed that I haven't finished the game yet, so I started playing... up to the point where I'm supposed to go to a very icy place. I've roamed around and still haven't able to go there (I saw a port nearby, but the 'port' itself is blocked by ships, and the area nearby is blocked by some kind of stones on water. I've managed to grab the Incubus summon, though.

Perhaps I'm going through this on the wrong way, or I'm missing something... T__T

Edit:

I got it. Might be a little useful if we can bring up the world map when we can... T___T
There's a video walkthrough in the Media tab. Though perhaps adding a minimap might be a good idea too.
I'm in Chapter 3 and enjoying myself so far.
Sure, the story and characters are nothing groundbreaking, but it feels like the old-school kind of RPG I have been missing, with enough twists and innovations to the formula to keep it interesting.
At first the combat was very frustrating since one lucky hit from a normal enemy could wipe out one of my characters and force me to either go back to a town or use one of the expensive revival items, but after a little grinding and AP allocation it became quite manageable. I like how bosses aren't immune to bad statuses like in most RPGs, and even managed to keep two bosses stunlocked for the entire fight thanks to my Agility/Accuracy-spec Rogue with a Confusion dagger.

That being said, I noticed a few things:
- Characters talk about Ark having mind control powers, but he doesn't start with any Confusion or Charm techs and hasn't seemed to do anything related to mind control yet.
- The Double Strike tech says it attacks an enemy twice, but it only does one slightly more powerful than normal attack. However, in the flashback area (in Chapter 2?) it works like it should.
- Not a bug, but Merces sure has a bad case of obsessive/compulsive villain monologueing. I wonder what his thoughts were, "I just met these random guys, time to tell them all about my evil plan!"?
- Traziun is also my favorite character from The Way.

Anyway, time to get back to playing!
Hi! I'm glad you're enjoying the game. The goal was to, basically, try and make a generic old-school/90s style RPG, complete with the cheese. If you've ever played the very early Final Fantasy games (1 and 3 are the ones I mainly drew inspiration from), it's supposed to contain a similar experience. I'm playing through the FF3 remake at the moment, and I've encountered some Legionwood style random encounters where I died from random lucky hits from the foes -- guess my emulation is accurate :)

In the earlier versions of the game before the AP system was in place, characters had their own unique Techs, and Ark's focused around mind control. It didn't make sense to keep them when the AP system came in, because it kind of elevated him above the other characters, so now he basically has these powers in name only.

And yeah, Merces is basically meant to be a generic evil supervillain, complete with monologues :)

If you liked Legionwood, be sure to check out the sequel!
I will definitely check out the sequel.
Anyway, I'm up to the last level now but had a quick question. Where is the Zenith Pin? I found all 5 other pins and wanted to try fighting the secret boss. The FAQ says it's in the Shrine of Hate, but I sailed all around and couldn't find anything.
You mentioned before doing an update for the game... I'll wait for the updated version, since the town I'm in is very laggy (2 FPS).
That update's already come to pass. This is the (for now) "Final Edition". Which town are you lagging in? I'll check it out and see what I can do.
The one asking you to go hunt some dragon. This is near the alchemist tower, I think...
Ah, yes, I know why that would be lagging. Basically, after you come back from the volcano, a plot event gets triggered in the town and changes its state. The events from that quest are in the town, just not active, which could be causing the lag.

I don't intend to update the game until I release Legionwood 2 at least, but if I get a chance I'll look it over and see what I can do.
Please help! :)

My game crashes every time Thyrra entered the Hawkshire Castle :( Any idea?
Mute your sound. I'm not sure why, but some computers don't like the music file that plays in the castle.
6 Hours in and still loving it!. Love your game, keep up the good work!.

So, this is the third time I started playing this game, and it's BY FAR the longest and farthest I have ever gotten. So far, I have not run into any bugs, and I am thoroughly enjoying the experience.

But, I just got the Sword of Lore, and I was heading back to the ship to go exploring, but I can't get past the massive barrier wall. I have tried everything I can think of to go through it (walking in and out of the frozen forest, talking to the gate in the wall, reloading an earlier save file), but nothing I have tried has worked.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Hi there Dark Gaia!

After a battle of about an hour, I finish the Rift Entity (with 2 forms defeated). But when I used the Orb of Origin, the game crashed :(

I'm so excited to see what item the Orb would turn into! Any idea :D
@Oblic: I've sent you a PM. Hope it helps!

@dark_dragons: The Orb of Origin just gives you the Origin Blade and Zenith Armor. It never worked, so those items were instead handed out during an event after the battle, but I forgot to actually remove the Orb from the game. In the DLC/update which I'm currently working on, I'll fix that :)
