Description

Welcome to the Mini Music Challenge, wherein participants will compose a piece a music that conforms to the requirements and theme (once revealed). After the submissions deadline, we will all listen to the submissions and vote for a winner!

The last one went over so well I thought I thought I'd do another quick one.

  • This event will consist of a single phase.
  • Participants will be able to sign up and submit their works anonymously using this event page.
  • Votes will be counted and published at end of the event. The person to receive the most votes wins.
  • The composers will have approximately 2 weeks to compose their piece. This will be followed by a short voting period.
  • MP3 is the preferred format, but MIDI and OGG are also acceptable.
  • The composition must be a new and original piece composed specifically for this event.

Short but Effective
There was an ulterior motive for naming this the Mini Music Challenge. For your submission, you are required to keep your piece to 2 minutes or less in length! Can you convey your desired musical aesthetic under this artificial time constraint? You're free to use any kind of instrumentation and sources of sounds you wish.

Riding the Airship!

Let's go to far-off places, and search for treasures bright! Our heroes have obtained an airship and are cruising around the world in an exhilarating flying machine, flowing through the skies with the greatest of ease! But is your RPG a high fantasy? Perhaps it is a steampunk airship? Or maybe it is a futuristic flying device?

Good luck to all the participants!

Mario Paint Composer is actually pretty awsome! It's not overly simple, but not crazy complex either. Another good one is Anvil Studio, but it's more complex...
I have a crappy little beta ready but i'm waiting until Kentona has the unre-submit bug stopped, or else i'll be in for it...

PS: I WILL BE ADDING
So if I do add the beta it WILL be nothing compared to my final one sizewise and quality-wise
For those of you who feel limited by skills in creating music you can download a trial version of Midi Maker 1.01 on the internet which works in a similar fashion to Mario style music maker but has more instruments to play around with.

The program allows you to export your track into a midi format so you can submit it into the music challenge with ease. This is what the program looks like so you can imagine how it will work.

The program is a free trial and some features are locked out and after 50 uses the trial ends but you can re-install the program and start again.

Looks almost like the Vocaloid programs.

Another good one is Musescore and Vocalod, Vocaloid you can export as a Wav. file and a MIDI.
Musescore is a great MIDI making program.
I have Anvil studio, and it's pretty great also.

Can I use the files I make in Contests in games also? And how do I submit?
Hey all I'm new here ^^

Just signed up to try my hand at the challenge, and this site seems pretty cool too.

Was wondering where we submit our music?
Once you sign up, you should see a submit button up at the top right. Remember, this song has to be original and composed specifically for this event!

I downloaded that Midi maker program.
I don't see why ya don't just make this a monthly competition, it's obviously very popular...

I downloaded that Midi maker program.

By originally composed, do they have to be my sounds, or can I use a program like Magix Music Maker and use the preloaded sounds?

It's a good thing there's a couple weeks to do this. Because Diablo 3 open beta takes priority 1! :D

Existing sounds are fine. It's the composition of those sounds that must be new! Mostly, the intent is to prevent people from just submitting something they made before the contest.

I'm almost done but I don't want my theme to be revealed until the deadline is over. :x
I'll give it a shot. Sibelius 7 sounds are so boss. Hopefully I produce something relevant to the theme. T_T
Ankylo fixed it so that if you submit now, your entry will not be revealed until the voting period begins.

Thanks Anky!

I fail at music.

So do I, and I joined! As long as it's fun :3
