DIVISION BY ZERO ERROR

So I was play-testing through a section of my game, and I was in a battle, just did a regular attack on a monster, and the game crashed with a "division by zero error" cited.
Been playing for a while before it happened, killed a few of the same monsters before, didn't equip any new items, use any new spells etc.
Anyone know why it might have happened?

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I would guess it happened because one of your scripts tried to divide by zero.
...
Well I'm not using any custom scripts, just the commands within RPGMaker (2003).
I was just wondering if it was a common trap that you might fall into somewhere within the program, or the most likely places for this to occur. Thought someone might have encountered this when they were less experienced and fooling around with the maker, as I am.

author=ZazurWell it happens all the time but it's just a random glitch that will randomly appear. Not a persistent one.

It's probably not all that random. It's probably related to some of the "internal" math going wrong. I know you will get a division by zero error if you have a picture displayed at screen related coordinates bigger than either 319 in the x direction or 219 in the y direction if the magnification is 2% or less.
This is outside of battles though. For battles you could go check if there are any battle animation images with low magnification as well which might cause trouble. haven't encountered the problem during battles myself

I've had it occur very randomly in the past. I've also noticed that sometimes the player can glitch through the enemy and end up stuck on the left side of the screen when the battle ends.
As far as I could tell, the divide by zero crash seemed to occur when a party member and enemy acted at (virtually) the same time. Using the WAIT option instead of ACTIVE seems to have removed it from the project I was encountering it in.

I had this happen once watching someone play my game on stream. They killed the boss using a skill, and the game crashed as such with the Divide by Zero error. First time I ever saw said error as well. Was nothing special about the skill at all either (he WAS using Active at the time, so maybe they did somehow act at the same time).
Slightly off-topic, but since you brought up the glitch with enemies, I once had a glitch that my person attacked physically with her weapon (she had 2 weapons equipped so she was able to attack twice). She attacked once, THEN the enemy attacked BETWEEN her first and second attack, and then she attacked again killing the enemy. No idea what THAT was about at all...
