Poor bastards. ;D
Anyway, i stayed at gaming world for a while then some jerk kept messaging me saying that i was his cousin or something. I got scared and returned here to my home turf.

I don't think GW is that bad. I'm still a regular there; I just stay out of the occasional idiotpit.
It really isn't that bad of a forum. =P

GW continues on its path to becoming...Gaming Ground Zero.
'cause it'll never be Something Awful, like it tries so hard to be. Honestly.
It may not be Something Awful, but it sure is something awful.
author=ImmortalDreamer link=topic=1012.msg14067#msg14067 date=1209885329We are even more elitist AND we have triple standards!
I've been less active on GW for a couple months now. I'm just sick of all the elitism and double standards there.
Wait , what happened? I was at GamingW all night, so what event in particular are you referring by this topic?
In any event, I know some really crazy stuff went down yesterday, and I've said it before and I'll say it again as many times as we need to, us RPG Makers need to move on from Gaming World. I know the RM community has its share of issues, but that's just not the place for us anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's great to be active in BOTH communities like many of us are, but I think that RMN should be the new center for RPG Maker and it's userbase.

Goodbye and good riddance, imo. I haven't visited there in a while and only recently logged-in because I was informed that one of my "constituents" was spreading nasty rumors, and I wanted to see if he had PMed me or made a topic or SOMETHING to verify what he was saying before he did. Of course, he didn't, so.
I mainly just keep to myself now, so whatever. I mean, it's more traffic to here and to whatever other sites the refugees fly to. As long as quality doesn't start going down the shitter like it was over there (with a few exceptions), I'm game.

I think its just silly. Games are games, people are such drama whores about it. I don't understand where this "circle jerking" comes into play - if anything, I think the individuals who go around and burn threads, accusing games to be "JRPG!" are the ones that are ruining the forums, but enough of that.

The circle jerking supposedly comes from the community not giving acknowledgment to the games the staff thinks are good. The Sewer Goblet is one example I've heard a lot. I won't deny that it's well constructed, but I'm just not into that type of game. Was that wrong of me (and others) to not download?
But what exactly happened back there? I can't really look at the forums at all.
See site feedback.

I cannot really post the whole thread because the thread grew to seven/eight pages overnight.
But again, enough about other sites' back alley business.

Steel and co. attempted to mandate that G&D be reorganized in accordance with their own ideals and stances on the community, utterly disregarding the views of those actually affected. They've continually discriminated against RPG-Maker-developed projects as well as those that lack "original content/visuals" on the basis of what I can only assume is them wanting the mainstream community looking good on a superficial level.
Also, time spent bickering about GW is better utilized improving RMN and it's collective activity. :)

Uh. What the hell? I think GW is a great community.
I liked it too, I liked it when I first arrived there a few years ago; but somewhere alone the line some of the staff felt the need to turn into controlling, condescending douche bags.
I still like a great deal of the people who go there (which is why I've stayed with it) but every time I watch some staffers (whether they have this power or not) post it just makes the bile rise in my throat.
I just don't feel very comfortable posting there, really. I came to GW from Ghostlight, and at the time, GL kept on bashing the site, called it a "cesspool." I finally tried posting there, and I actually liked it quite a bit and I didn't see what was so bad about it. Though now it doesn't seem to welcome my tastes anymore! Which is okay, I'll just post at RMN.
GW doesn't have an obligation to cater to anybody though. If they really want to make these changes, they're entitled to it even if it isn't in the best interests of the G&D sub-community.
Does anybody remember the old RPG Arena/Devscape website? It was about as big as GW a few years back and was actually one of the first project hosting web pages. The user base was primarily RPG Maker until the administrator decided to exclude all projects from that medium, permanently crippling the community. GW isn't going to be doing something like that, but if there were a decision to limit projects drastically like some have proposed then game development activity is going to plummet.

Of course they're entitled to do it, since they've expressed such resentment I've actually encouraged them to. However, personally; I don't appreciate their demeanor.
Their goal is not one I disagree with, a higher standard of acceptance and game creation; however the way they go about this is something I strongly disagree with.
So are they completely banning the use of RPG maker, or are they just ditching game making in general? If they are going for the latter than yeah... Good luck to them. ::)
I don't think they are doing either, I think they are trying to discourage the use of it, though. Regardless of the "You haven't read/understand what we are trying to say!"
