CloseI have a cousin (who's gonna turn 30 soon) that has a little "game studio", their greatest achievements are a pallette-swapped version of flappy bird and an expy of similar nature which is about a guy on a skateboard with a constant moving background that you have to jump over to not lose and they genuinelly feel they've gone so far, which gives me mixed feelings, mostly annoyance, because last year he somehow figured that hey, since they had made two expys of two popular games the logical progression demands that they create a full 3D space-themed shooter akin to Doom 3 next. He asked me to please, please help him with the music and sound effects. Despite knowing what i had to do I didn't do shit because I knew it was going to fail, and it did. It obviously failed catastrophically, they made like two models, some concept art, a large .doc detailing the plot, and then everyone stopped replying or posting.
Today he called me, he said he wanted to meet up because he had something to talk about, i humored him despite having this weird tingling sensation in the back of my head and lo and behold, he wanted to talk about a new project he wants to work on. A big game with Zelda top-down gameplay that turns into a platformer when you're inside houses and then it turns into a survival game with rpg elements and thirst and hunger bars ticking down with time, and lots and lots of graphical and musical assets that of course wants me and another chump to work on. I couldn't say no because fuck he's family and all that shit but jesus christ it doesn't take a genious to see the clear countdown to disaster.
It's ridiculous. This guy barely crawls, doesn't know how to walk and wants to sprint. His explanation of the game he wanted to make was acceptable when it was at the part of "top down exploration game like zelda", but then he started with "then it changes into a platformer when you're inside a temple" and i was like

So I take it he's played Zelda II? The one which is top-down but turns into a platformer when you're inside a house or temple, and has RPG elements?
I have a couple friends like that. When I say I do programming and work on games, they seem to think that means "Yes, I will do all the work on your totally unique realtime 3D AAA MMORPG which you believe is revolutionary and of course will succeed, and of course I have lots of other programmer friends who will help!".
Fortunately I am not related to any of them.

If it was like Zelda two i'd have no objections since the top down part of that game merely serves the function of a world map where you are transported to different rooms based on what you collide with, but he wants three completely different gameplays in the same game, he wants something like a link to the past, with top down exploration, weapons, items, health and enemies, and then he wants platforming with completely different graphics, elements and variables, and THEN he wants a survival game with even more additional elements!
Oh, and the icing on the cake? He wants to make this in Construct 2.

This Octopus city game looks damn radical. And thanks to stretch goals, its gonna be released on Ouya. One more reason to buy this slightly retarded console. And you can download a demo at itch.io.

My God, the bots are spreading!
I'm not sure. It probably is. Only move which can save them is to announce a new version (Super Ouya) with the newest tegra chip. It's performance should attract both new players and devs. Also supporting a linux dedicated for it would help.
And I guess, that it isn't drastically expensive to purchase this one part. Basic architecture of the console is finished, so what.

But seriously, go check out the crazy that is the Archives. Soooo many pages of spam. The bots have been quelled for the time being. Now to sort through the 14 messages I got in the meantime (what's the bet they're all reports about bot topics? orz ) and then I can relax a bit. I'll probably be keeping an eye out for those asshole bots to make a return for a few more hours though. Just in case.
In the meantime, I'm gonna treat myself to some ice-cream. :3

It's kentona's training banhammer. He just lets me bash the bots with it. I haven't enough points to use the all-purpose banhammer. ^.^
Damn, I've been speccing 'swaers' instead. kentona must have given me the wrong build information! Now I'll have to offset it somehow. If I cut out 'swaers' altogether and skip some levels to pour all my points into 'snark' instead of 'critique' I might be able to make up the difference in about... 10-15 levels. >.<;
