Answer: because signatures should not be longer than your entire post.
I'm going to go with a resounding no on this one, I had a gif for a signature that was A) filled with the "lolz" B) longer than anything you could type without the reader slipping into a coma and C) all of the above.
I'm not against the no signature regime, but where am I going to put my insightful snippets of wisdom?

I don't AGREE with the removal of sigs, but I understand the reasoning behind their removal, and I certainly wouldn't have gone that far to defend them.

If I had to say, I don't think Max was miffed about the signatures per se, I guess it was the whole thing behind it.
How it turns out is people will probably tolerate it because everyone is very aware they have very little control over what direction this site is going.
For a long time he's felt there's a attitude around here in which you can't be outspoken about the things you don't like about the site/etc without being shut down on it, with the whole 'don't rock the boat' mentality and such.
He could have went about it far better than he did, though.
