I think I know see why these rpgmaker communities get so much flak. I mean really, banning a staff member because of a petty squabble over signatures.
I am sorry. Next time someone breaks the rules after a direct warning, I will let them continue to do so. Rules r dum!! We just made them because we are mean!!!
WIP is going to be a great Dad some day.

It wasn't a petty squabble. We made a serious policy decision for the site and he didn't like it, which is fine. However, the way he handled himself was totally wrong -- how can we expect our regular users to follow the rules if a staff member shows such blatant disregard for them? He was warned on several occassions and chose to be a martyr. We obliged.

If I had to say, I don't think Max was miffed about the signatures per se, I guess it was the whole thing behind it.

How it turns out is people will probably tolerate it because everyone is very aware they have very little control over what direction this site is going.

For a long time he's felt there's a attitude around here in which you can't be outspoken about the things you don't like about the site/etc without being shut down on it, with the whole 'don't rock the boat' mentality and such.

He could have went about it far better than he did, though.

Max is upset precisely because of the removal of signatures and the future removal of game threads. He is one of the biggest abusers of both. He's also been taking a lot of heat lately for his failure to meet site commitments. Max was a staff reviewer, and in the last seven months he has produced a grand total of two reviews. He's also had numerous other infractions. This is the real issue here, not some perceived notion of indifference on the part of the site administration. I don't really like commenting on this sort of stuff but the rumors flying around, which Mog and others are helping to perpetuate, make it necessary.

Feld, the fact that you are still allowed to post here is evidence of our allowance of dissent. I am getting really tired of all your petty remarks about the site administration. Please, if you are really going to complain so much, post elsewhere. I am sure Gaming World would be happy to have you back at this point. We are pretty open to suggestions on a lot of things. A lot of our events and site updates have been generated from user ideas. That does not make us a democracy. There are, however, a wide variety of opinions that get thrown around in the staff forum and it's usually not so simple as "WIP decided" or "Holbert said". In fact, there is very often a vigorous debate on site direction. I am sure Karsuman, SFLavelle and others can attest to this.

/\ This is why they get so much flak.
I read the thread carefully. As much as I like Max, he was in the wrong to go ahead and declare that he was going to post his sig over and over again in every post as a sign of resistance. That was a big F*** you to the community. It's sad, because I thought he was one of the best people we had posting in here; always insightful, always fun to strike up a conversation with. I also hoped he'd be around to criticize my first game entry for RMN... e-peen isn't worth THAT kind of obstinance. It was a sig, for crissakes, not refusal to host his games entirely (which WOULD have merited that kind of behavior)!

Hell, I love attracting attention as much as the next RMN'er. I don't think burning bridges is the best way to get it, though.
I've got a Super Mario thing going on.
I could fully understand Max's removal as a staff member. It never really looked like he did much. I'd say that there isn't any reason for him to not be allowed to post here again at some point though.

Max isn't permanently banned. He'll be back, if he choses to.

I don't know what to say. Perhaps I am taking things too personally and at face value. I am also at fault for dragging other sites I visit values to this one.
dissent is allowed and if it's done maturely and properly, encouraged. belligerence isn't. this is always the impression i've had and it's the way it should be. 8)

That was a big F*** you to the community.

Staff = Whole community.

Yes, because a place where you can do anything you want (anarchy) is awesome.

Also, stop pushing it.
Well I mean, what I meant by

I am also at fault for dragging other sites I visit values to this one.

was that I visit another video game related community that's about the size of this one, and well, its well, different. There's a very noticeable atmosphere of friendliness and familiarity, some people are on a first name basis, and people are generally really helpful and cheery, and involved in not only one another, but what each other has to offer as well in terms of opinions and creativity. Also, in terms of the administration, I took it as face value when I saw a topic here that said "It has been decided that this change is now in effect", when well, I wasn't really used to it. The other community I mentioned, possible site changes were always discussed openly with the members before anything was changed, and if the members liked/disliked something, they voted to make a change or an addition to something existing.

I know that you're thinking "that's there, not here", but its not like I dislike this place or the administration, but sometimes I feel like its heavy handed and I wish it was more friendly and a bit more transparency. I'm big on friendliness. Of course, I'm at fault for not handling certain things correctly (my apologies, Karsuman), but I dunno. I kinda have this coming because I'm USUALLY the one to say something about it, so yeah, I understand if certain parties were upset with me.
Bah, just forget it.

Not only that, but combined with some of the threats he made to ban me for what seemed to be extremely petty reasons made me think, and the thought lingered for a while, that the site is just a totalitarian dictatorship that WIP did whatever he wanted and if you didn't like it, fuck 'em!

...

Even having other admins wasn't comforting for the fear that he would just override everyone else to do what he wanted.

I have personally vetoed your ban on numerous occassions. You have me wondering why right now. :)
