WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

we're all just yelling in a big empty room full of deaf idiots. Clumsy-as-shit, that metaphor, but marginally apt, I think.
That sums up life in general, albeit in a Lydia Deetz-ian sort of way.
By the way, I don't know if it has been brought up before ( I don't feel like sifting at the moment) or if you even talk about it, but have you worked on anything I would recognize?
In any case, I applaud you for being able to support yourself in that way. In the past, the few paid writing positions I've had never worked out well, largely because I usually ended up sinking way more time and effort into them than I could reasonably expect to be reimbursed for, to the point that they actually ended up costing me money. Granted, this wasn't for games, just some magazine and newspaper stuff that I was more than happy to bury under nom de plumes and attempt to forget about.
Hmmmm...
(So, I have that new "Zelda" game, right? Right? Ah...I bought it almost a week ago and still haven't played it, yet. Um...I think I'm finding myself so -- lazy -- that I can't even turn on the "Power Button," or something...)
...Also, I'm thinking about "Boobs". No joke. :D

Either that or your brain literally cannot process the fact that there's actually a GAME to play on your Wii. Lord knows that'd be my reaction if I still had mine.

>Moevember and not having a mustache, for shame my good sir.
I'm thinking about the SNES being sent to my house so I can play Chrono Trigger
on its home system and not my computer.
Also. about Cait Sith's theme song- love that cat despite being allergic to them.
Edit: And why is this the Welp, Welp! forum?

I am incapable of growing a moustache for some odd reason. What you see in that picture is the result of No-shave November (and a week of October, if I'm being honest).

Haha, Thanks :3
I'm about to make a fairly radical statement. This might subconsciously follow off of "never hate a movie", I don't know.
Don't review indie games the same way you'd want commercial games to be reviewed. Because it is your responsibility first and foremost to nurture this community.
If you're going to write a review that gives a game one star, just don't do it. The best way you can help the community is just by not doing this. One star reviews don't help anyone. They will keep people who might have liked the game from experiencing it. They will cause people who would have avoided the game anyway to play it out of curiosity. And even assuming the most humble and receptive designer imaginable, assuming that she takes your review as gospel and changes every single thing you suggest, the blow to her will to continue is not justified by it, and the possibility for drama does not well serve the community.
If you think you'd be likely to give a game a one star review, just don't play it. If every time that someone had been about to write a one star review, they had instead just sat on their asses and done absolutely nothing, this community would be a much better place in every imaginable way: more games, more complete games, and a bigger userbase to enjoy them.
One star reviews don't serve the community at all. They only harm it.
I'm not saying the scale should begin at two--that would be retarded. The choice not to give games a one star review only matters if it's in the face of the possibility of doing so.

So, basically... if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing? Leave people to carry on working in a vacuum, and hope that they have an epiphany regarding the quality/direction of their work? That is an awful lot of faith to put in a bunch of deaf idiots in an empty room.
I am being way more specific than that, man.
There is a HUGE difference between "not writing a one star review" and "saying nothing". You're leaving out the entire concept of feedback and criticism without a specific value judgement such as a rating. If you thought a game had major problems, then tell the creator that by a PM or a comment. There's no need to take an action that specifically prevents other people from playing it. To do that is wrong.
I'm not saying "never say anything" I'm saying never say "no one should ever play this" which is a one star review says; it's a terrible thing to ascribe to someone's earnest effort.
I know what I'm saying is really radical, so I wasn't NOT expecting to have to defend it.

.....while tests od show that the prototype systems computional capacity vastly exceed that of logical circuits based systems currently in use in orbital silicon clusters both private and state commissioned prototype test runs have demonstrated without a doubt that the progper operation of the dostevhic isngle-tube lightbased computation matrix canot be maintained in natural field conditions of any planetaru space.as such the officla consortium for public network integriyt cannot at this time recommend the proposed directive to order the restructuring of silicon clusters three and four
I agree with Max on this one.
From my point of view, a ranking system is a powerful advertising weapon. Aside from the main screenshot and title, it is the first thing people will notice about a game hosted here. It is the first (and therefore very convincing) measure of "quality" that people will see and it immediately influences their decision about opening the game's profile to see more of the game, or not.
As a developer, I want feedback from the players. If there's a bad rank on my game page or in the Games section, I won't get as much players and feedback.
The problem is, not everyone thinks about how much they let their environment (here the rank) influence them.
