AND SINCE YOU POSTED SOMETHING ABOUT HOW A GAME BOY GAME LOOKS, I have an excuse to post this incredibly thorough set of articles about the Super Game Boy, the weirdest bunch of palette challenges you'll get this side of the MSX. its tech has very little to do with the GBC, which had the luxury of drawing in colour instead of just colourizing monochrome input after the fact, but it's a wonderful read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
I remember this article. It's a fascinating read that really enlightened me on how games were made at that time. It's a shame that so few developers took advantage of the Super Gameboy's capabilities, I was going gaga over the color palette of Donkey Kong 94 (makes me want to play that game again!).

I'm honestly kind of jealous at the people who didn't just find out about Donkey Kong '94 through these articles. the fake-out they pull with the graphics and playstyle sounds really exciting for its time -- hell, it sounds like the style of twist pulled in current-day indie games, not first-party titles from twenty years ago.
Speaking of DK64, I'm highly tempted to give it a shot with it being on Virtual Console now. Haven't played it (legitimately) since I was a kid.

I guess I'm not the only one who saw "DK 94" and just thought "64", but it turns out it's actually a pretty cool GameBoy reboot of the 80s Donkey Kong arcade game. I might have to get me a cart sometime (they're thankfully pretty cheap).
Anyways, r-r-r-r-RANDOM THOUGHT: What if all the black holes in the universe are actually plot holes created by civilizations that discovered and misused time travel?

The game was awesome. The last time I really played it was back in late elementary school on my brother's Game Boy Color, but I really got sucked into it.
There's also home video of my brother's 7th birthday when he got the game and me (being 4 at the time) got all excited for no apparent reason and started shouting "Donkey Kong" as if I knew what that was.
I went to an event today and everyone there was a pale skinned blonde adonis with green or blue eyes and i was sitting there with my muddy brown eyes and black hair and brownish skin and i felt inferior and plebeian and it was the worst feeling i've felt in a pretty good while. Like walking in a dressing room with lots of naked muscular men and realizing your penis wasn't as big as you once thought.

That was yesterday for me. The idea of mapping/tiling a 40+ hour rpg was pretty overwhelming, summer's over so I have to start grading tomorrow, and my sister wants me to play guitar at her wedding, so I have to arrange and learn 30 minutes of music that is in a style I'm not comfortable with and don't really enjoy this month. Meanwhile I'm THIRTY and I have this constant loop in my head saying, "YOU SHOULD PROBABLY GET INTO A MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIP AND GAIN SOME FORM OF CAREER SUCCESS SOON."
This is now an existential thread where we talk about how we're all sinking in the black murk of reality.

Real Talk: not really. Not THAT much. Forgot that they actually did a nice job with Freya's FMV model, despite the fact that you only see her twice in the whole game in FMVs.
It's shame, really. I would have put the FMV model in my Freya photo collage if there were any decent/non-sad ones.

haha oh god I totally misread that. My bad! I was exhausted that day.
Yeah the Gameboy game is really, really good as well. I still love that final boss so much.
