But then the church (because they'll be the first to try and refute it) will just say that it's part of that same old liberal agenda and that "Satan works first in the mouth then the body" or some shit and use that as evidence for the inherent impurity of homosexuals and God's plan for them to burn in hell for all eternity, because everything's written in stone from the get-go and God is never wrong.

Not to mention if they do single out a "gay gene", special interest groups with lots of money (like the Catholic church) will be more than willing to fund "treatment" for fetuses that display this gene.

On the other, some could try to redefine homosexuality as a biological abnormality. There is no way to change people’s sexuality, but if key genes are found, it might be possible to detect homosexuality before birth, or to “cure” people by altering those genes. Even the threat of this could be used to persecute: consider the ugly histories of prenatal sex selection and of coerced and ineffectual “therapies” for homosexuals. It is no wonder that some activists see in such research the “seeds of genocide”.

We can all see where things are headed.

But this is all theoretical because, at the moment, most government's are scared of pushing GMO research in plants because there are too many morons in the world who are willing to protest the use of something that they clearly don't understand :)

You mean there are too many morons in the world who want to use said science to get rich by gaining a monopoly on a certain plant because of its genetic structure.

Don't get me wrong, science is great. I mean, I'm studying mathematics and physics for a reason. But science is only great if practiced for its own sake.
Why can people not study for the sake of studying? Why are we humans so greedy that we cannot contribute to science without wanting a monetary reward much larger than we need to sustain ourselves? Why do patents twist great scientific progress like GMO into something awful? Until we can answer those questions, and deal with them, the complaints of people against things they don't understand are very valid, and should be taken into consideration.
So, I don't care too much about GMOs, since all domesticated plants have been genetically modified through human selection of crops for thousands of years. Almost all the food we eat is a GMO of one form or another.

However, if you don't believe that evolution is a real process, then humans are incapable of modifying food in that way. And all our food before genetic engineering was 100% natural.

The only time I really care all that much about GMOs are some of the new ones that some companies like Monsanto are creating that are intentionally infertile, just to force farmers to keep buying from Monsanto. That's very predatory. But it's more of a consumer rights issue, and only a GMO issue tangentially.
This is the most fabulous thing I've seen all week.

My point is also very much that GMO could be very helpful if it weren't for corporate douchebags thinking science exists to aid them and only them.
I am so glad the judging is officially over. HEY LOOK KENTONA YOU DIDN'T LOSE ME TO THE IGMC! :DDD

Probably because this year we had A PLAN and it actually worked out pretty well. Man, I'm allowed to actually stream stuff now (and by now I mean on Saturday) which I will be doing, if anyone wants to request a game from the IGMC for me to stream. Should be fun!

Play a game of Uno once and end it within a few minutes with a Wild card. Play another game and end it within a few minutes with another Wild card. Mom wants to play a third game because the first two were short.

The next game took an hour and we were all waiting for it to be over.

There's a game design lesson to be learned here.

Glad to see you didn't lose your sanity Libby. I look forward to seeing what comes up on top. I've got a couple of personal favourites, Free Spirits of course, Dead and Breakfast (because puns always work for me) and there's a slightly odd one called ZIZ I quite liked, there are few that are message heavy both in text and in content but all in all the games I've played from the competition have been fairly good, and the ones that aren't you know right away. Though there is one I want to play but it crashes on me more than it plays, but the devs are supposedly working on the issue.

Still a pretty good selection of games to wade through over the next few months, it did feel like there were less this time around though which is probably a false impression.

I love drunk UNO but those hour-long games can seriously kill the buzz.
It should be an unspoken rule that if enough time has passed, you should not place a +2 or a +4 to a person who just screamed "UNO".

I was about to throw in some sort of crazy table-trading rule if someone didn't have a particular color. We had to reshuffle the deck so many times it wasn't even funny.
I thinking about how terrible I have become at playing guitar after being away from one for almost 2 years :(

Edit> Well, at least I can still play the spongebob theme :)
Probably the most depressing thing in my life is how I feel like I just get worse and worse at playing guitar. I slowly get less ambitious, and I feel the music less and less. One day, I'll just be stood there stone faced, and realize that this is the end of music for me.

I can't even play an instrument.
this is reminding me that I haven't practiced the violin today despite the fact that I suck and need to practice
*nervous sweating*
I've been playing for over half a year but still, I suck. I AM getting better though, slowly, slowly, god-awfully slowly... practice more, me!
Well, to be fair, they gave California to an actor and bodybuilder, so... Not really surprised. Maybe instead of an Oscar they should make DiCaprio a Senator or something.

These two articles came out on the same day. The juxtaposition here is stunning.

Also, how long has it been since the last school shooting in the States? A week? Less than a week?

Makes me fucking sick. It's a fucking failure of 'civilization' that this happens.
