WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
Posts
Today, I'm off to the Microsoft Store in a nearby mall to find out why I don't have my Windows10 free upgrade and how to install it without screwing up everything else on my computer :)
I am thinking about the terrible possibility of another Harper government. I don't think I could take another 4 years of that smug evil bastard and his fascist governing.
Maybe I'll buy a gun and move to the USA (you are required to own at least one gun down there, right? that's my understanding. though I should get a free rifle when I set up a bank account...)

I has no guns myself, and never owned one in my life, though I hope you guys can finally get rid of Harper; this American feels Canada deserves better than that garbage.

No, you're not required to own a gun. And banks haven't given away free guns in a looong time. But hold your horses. We might end up with Trump or Hillary. I'm still hoping for Sanders and he's definitely got the support to pull it off. It'll be nice to have a truly anti-war president who can do for the country what he did for Bloomington, Vermont.

At men's bible study tonight, this homeless guy without a tooth to his name shared a story about how he came across $2,000 and spent $600 of it to put some other sick ("snot running out of his nose") homeless guy in a hotel for a few weeks. He went on to say that, with all he's been through, the joy he gets from thinking back to that time is one of the few things that's helped keep him going. I nearly cried.
Then half the group went to Waffle House. I decided not to go because 1. I had a ride and 2. I'm not feeling gutsy.
Heh..
'Does God have a plan for me?' I dunno, eat at Waffle House and find out.

Oh, he’ll be gone soon, you two. All you have to do is go out and vote, wait in line for a couple of hours (seriously?) and watch the hilarity unfold. And judging by all the huge turnouts so far at most of the advanced polling stations everywhere, it looks like people are finally playing attention this time around and want real change.

An Anti-war president in America? Thats not gonna happen.
Technically wasn’t Obama an anti-war president? He did pull most of the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and didn’t bother to send any ground troops to places like Crimea or Syria during the initial stages, so I’d say that he’s probably the least war-like out of the bunch.
Obama was as anti-war as U.S. presidents get. He did his best to amend the relationships of the countries Bush went and slaughtered with Cheney for the sake of Oil, but eh... if Donald Trump gets in that's all going to fly out the Window.

You never know exactly, but, yeah…probably. *sigh*

GOP Primaries season is my fucking favorite tv of all time since 2008 and I look forward to it every time. It's like staring into the abyss and laughing with it.

I thought the problem for Obama was that a lot of his policies are blocked by the Senate or the House of Representatives or something like that.
That's pretty much it, actually. The President's power only accounts for one third of the entire government. Less than half. Presidents can make all the promises they want, but in the end, the only real deliverable they can guarantee is an attempt to make the change. Congress can, if they reach a consensus, veto just about any bill he sends to them. That's what's going on now. It's not that the President isn't trying to make change, it's Congress stubbornly vetoing any bills the President sends, regardless of what they entail.
And that's why, when people (even Americans, sadly) are asked why American politics is so messed up, they usually point the finger solely at the President. This just simply isn't true.
Not sure why I'm getting political here. I just finished up the last of the IGMC top ten and my mind's in a haze.

It's a little more complicated than that. Legislatively there's very little the president can do. He can sign bills into law and generally set an agenda for what he'd like Congress to work on, but legislation has to originate in Congress and this Congress would rather chew their own arm off than give Obama anything. The Republicans can't even agree with themselves right now, it's gotten pretty sad.
So it's less that Obama's policies get 'blocked' but more they won't pass anything to begin with due to terminal gridlock. The president has less control over the U.S. government than most people realize.
One thing the president does handle is foreign policy, for which Obama has a decidedly mixed record.

Presidents don't send bills to Congress, it's actually the other way around.

... Oops. Yep. You're right. For some reason, my brain stopped working and I thought that it worked both ways since Obamacare was the thing that came to mind when I posted. Now I need to go figure out how that got rolling.
Looks like I can't government as well as I thought. Off to Guantánamo Bay I go.

In other news, chemistry has decided to hate me today. A compound I've been working towards for three weeks degraded as I was purifying it. Final step of a reaction pathway as well. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Should've made a backup.
