Upside down electrical sockets make sense in an ass-backwards house.

My grandfather is a carpenter. There are two hallmarks of his work: upside-down power outlets, and no closets.

As a result, I have no idea how to use a closet, and I always try to plug things in upside down first.

Is it just me or does this sound like a famous RPG track? Suikoden maybe?

also origin is better than steam outside of it being a way for EA to closely guard its product. i really don't like steam that much -- valve is a terrible company (poor customer service, the decline of winter/summer sales, complete lack of moderation of their service). origin is clean and works. i can respect that even if EA isn't much better than the rest of the assholes in the industry as a publisher =P

I just remembered that a bunch of you countries don't have on/off switches on your power outlets. That's pretty silly to me.

I think a lot of you are missing the point of the switch on those plugs. They're not there for your convenience. They're there because of the way your electricity is wired. Under US codes, our electricity is lower voltage (we run at 1250 while you guys are at 2400). You see, here, we just run a line to the main box and branch off of it. What you do, however is called split perimeter loop wiring. You run a single high capacity line all through the house and attach the power outlet wherever it comes near a good spot. Because of this, you handle your fuse system a little differently. All appliances need fuses to run. In the US, those fuses are contained within the appliances. UK or Australia, they're in the plugs. So when those fuses go out, you need to be able to turn the plugs off in order to replace them.

Now, those switches are big power savers in your countries, but you only have them because the design requires them. Here, even though they'd be smart, we don't need them, so we don't have them. We can get switched plugins installed if we want, but it's easier and just as effective to buy power strips.
