WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
Posts
author=DudesoftI think I've just become narcissistic enough to make self-doubt a thing of the past.
I've been trapped in a vortex of self doubt since parting ways with Holmes vs. Moriarty. It was so easy, because I wasn't in the forefront spotlight. I hid behind my day job and refused to go to comic shows. To now go it alone and sell by myself? Yeek. Still scares me.
I couldn't actually say that's a good thing.
That said it sounds like you're in a full blown career and not just an enthusiastic hobbyist.
author=DudesoftIf there's anything being a developer for over 10 years has taught me, it's that the only thing anyone needs to be special, is the belief that they can be.
@BM
You're right, though. Only way to move forward is to take a step in that direction. Shuffling around in the shadows is only going to keep me there.
Nothing good comes easy, but the effort towards acquiring what is good makes it more than worth it. It's taken me a lot of work, sweat and bravery, but look where I am now. Sure i may not be a huge hit here, but I know my ideas are good, and when given decent exposure, it's clear a lot of people can see I put a lot of thought and effort into what I do as a developer.
I'm actually glad I'm hitting it big gradually rather than it coming all at once in a big flurry. once I start developing games in Unity and stuff it's hard to say what will happen. I'll be restarting my game dev course next year and taking full advantage of it this time.
Point is; Stay determined, stay hungry. Don't let the fears of public controversy wear you down, and keep those haters at bay. No matter what you make, no matter how good it is, someone will make it their goal to hate it, whether out of envy they didn't come up with it first, some inferiority complex or other various psychological reasons, you can't let those fellas wear you down. Instead, be bolstered by their hate, for instance. Whenever someone is hating on something I make or just things I make in general I tend to immediately think about why they might hate it. I fully understand things aren't for all people, but when a thing is met with hatred, there's more than a lack of passion at play, quite the opposite, there's passion in disliking it.
Typically this will be to do with things entirely unrelated to the game itself, or it will be things that most can look over while other will outright latch onto as a reason to hate a product.
Take my hatred of RMW's for example, the site itself functions fine, sure there's a couple functionality errors with quoting, but that's never stopped me on other sites, the reason I hate RMwebs is because I felt betrayed, and without even knowing what I'd done until much later that I'd been duplicitously banned from two websites I previously held no ill will towards.
I'm using a personal example because its not good business to name names.
So yes, mostly hate is entirely psychological, passionate dislike of a thing is typically because it defies something you believe in, be it sensibilities, justice, religion, etc.
Apathy is simply 'not really for me'. For instance, I have at least four good friends who are furries, in no way do I walk that path, but I don't let it get between another cool human being and my friendship. I have messed up fetishes, so who am I to judge others for theirs?
To quote Sated, there's infinite power in giving zero fucks.
If I want to be honest, part of me asks "Why bother?" Which is not a healthy mind-set to be in ever!
author=MarrendHahaha! You got that right. And hey, I'd be honored to get a review that well thought out and lovingly written more than once a year.

As for what I'm thinking about? Releasing all 7 of my IP's on RMN. Some of them I've been holding off on for various reasons because it's honestly quite a bit of effort to format things for this site. The staff also seem very keyed to deny my projects as of late, when my quality has only improved. So I guess meeting this site's incredibly low standards isn't as easy as it used to be.
That or I'm being denied purely because I'm a PITA sometimes, I doubt that though, Kentona and Liberty aren't petty like that at all. I did used to provide a lot more information, too. So it's probably on me. Lol.
Well said Sated.
I've been thinking on a new IP, I actually concepted it a little while ago during coding class. It'd be about the Space Monkey Pirates of Tekerlek.
First though I want to finish off 314th Clash.
Now for something controversial...

Because a little off topic:
Also Boned should be up pretty soon so you can download it from here in the near future.
I also uploaded Exile, though it's only a demo project so you probably won't be interested.

I didn't think those games had a particularly big audience outside of Japan.
They had a particularly big audience... in my pants. Hurr.

author=SatedI could give less than a shit about the game, I have perverted artists~ I don't need it! :D

It's the concept as a whole that is ... not so much scary, as just plain annoying.
I actually should link this post I made on facebook because it sums up what I think of those seeking to be politically correct all the time perfectly.

I think the backlash over this game to the point of trying to ban it from being released is completely stupid and it's an insult to the sensibilities of anyone with common sense. I consider myself a leftist in all things, but I can't wrap my head around some of the more extreme 'SJWs', isn't a big part of the philosophy we're fighting for is the right of individual choice? Where does censorship fit into liberal thinking?
Here's the full Crybullies post, btw

Dude sounds like he's envious and wants his own safe space to talk about the yellow peril and war on christmas delusions
the idea that DOAX3 was under attack by critics for sexist content is something entirely invented by opportunistic marketers. the devs themselves only expressed concern that it might come under criticism if released to the West, and it's widely suspected that this is just a way of distracting from the actual reason: the series' historically poor sales in Western markets. prior to this decision, DOAX3 was not on literally anyone's radar -- the strongest feeling that feminist critics typically have toward the series is resignation and boredom.
people will believe absolutely anything is the fault of ~SJWs~ if they want to. the word has effectively become a dogwhistle term for assholes to use, and a lazily condensed version of the 'these people care too much about something that doesn't affect me' fallacy. I'm kind of surprised at what I'm seeing from some people in the last few posts -- you should know better, after seeing months of the same spiteful bullshit from the same two or three people.
... and, well, less surprised at a couple others.
that political cartoon and the attached rant are a fucking disgrace, I can say that much.

like maybe before you take one of the most angry reactionaries on the forum at his word that an evil feminist cabal is trying to get games banned you should check your facts and stuff
this is precisely the blind, credulous outrage that makes it so tempting for companies to say 'hey, gamers! SJWs don't want you to give us money! give us money to show them what-for!'

I'm always incredibly skeptical of anyone against "SJW" and even the use of "SJW" as a whole. After all, are you really trying to "defend free speech", or are you just giving yourself an excuse to be a bigot, which in turn perpetuates the plague of inequality in America that has been going on for decades? And honestly, I'm GLAD people speak out against things like costumes portraying racial stereotypes or whatnot, because in my opinion, the only way to actually progress towards equality is to dismantle the overlooked trends of our society.
Sorry but I have to agree with mawk 100%.

do you think I could pay off my tuition faster if I convinced gamers that feminists are trying to boycott my education
author=Feldschlacht IVSocial Justice Warriors --the loud ones-- are hypocritical and delusional. In a world they want, they still wouldn't be happy. Because they are aiming to silence anyone who doesn't agree with their sensibilities.

They are not liberal, nor are they otherwise. They are just a self-fulfilling joke.
Anyone who supports them is probably unaware of how far they'll go to make everyone unhappy in the search of their bliss, or is insane.
