Learning English was very hard for me. Back when i went to primary school learning English was something for the upper class only, so we didn't have it as a a subject. If you wanted to learn you had to pay the high fee of places like Harmon hall and others.

Luckily i had final fantasy, a desire to know what the fuck i had to do next, and a dictionary.

Nothing you can't do if you have guts.

If I remember correctly the Japanese have three different sets of letters that all mean something completely different, and to me that is a nightmare.

They do have three sets tho they are not completely different.
Two are just the spoken syllables (one for foreign, and one for japanese words), namely Hiragana and Katakana, and you can write everything in those two. They are also identical in pronunciation. It's the equivalent to our ABC and that already gets you pretty far and it's fairly easy to pick up. Getting to know those also immediately makes the pronunciation much more intuitive.

Adding the complicated looking chinese characters adds the base of words and make sentence a lot clearer and easier to read (so base characters/words in that set, and grammatical stuff and endings in the simpler one), those will take a while to really get down and it's where it gets a little more complicated, tho you can still look those up.

Japanese in that sense is a little different, but I find you can definitely get used to their practical logic behind it.

I have my studies on pause, however I was surprised by how much easier they are to learn than I thought they'd be (if you write them in addition to just reading/speaking them, I spent some train rides randomly writing single characters)
It really does reward diligently writing stuff down (mindlessly too! it's a fun way to fill waiting time haha).
Reaching a level to understand games might take a while tho as so far as I heard it uses a lot of unusual characters. Tho there are sometimes games that write theirs out in an easier to read fashion (so easier to look up too) Ni No Kuni for the DS did that for example.

Anyway! Languages are always tough, but if you are having fun doing it, it's far easier for our brain to pick up (as in, it's useful knowledge to keep for us)

Haha, and really, Japanese is a language like others. The difficulties all just lie in different things.

English is always taught in German schools, but I didn't really do well with my teachers (and they weren't too great either), so my English was pretty .. meh. Playing Japanese games (with only English translation available), reading online translations of Manga and other stuff got me the practice to actually become really good at it. By then I also loved reading books in English~
Well, that, and having good grammar help through latin.

Hmm. It seems however that RPG Maker MV will not let me compress, perhaps because it is the demo version which I guess would make sense. However, I did finish the game xD
