Well, then it's not different from the <Movie> Uncut projects. You're taking a video game and making a movie out of it. Lame.

Making an actual playable game is way cooler and more original. And also more fitting, since an actual playable game is what the original FF7 was.

Because making a game out of it would be kinda awful, not to mention it would restrict everyone to the same engine which cuts the number of people that would probably join by like half.
yeah it's not all that original or good when you're just replacing star wars with final fantasy 7, FILM AS A MEDIUM with.... rpg maker. this idea just seems forced.

I assure you I'm no where NEAR as STUPID as one might think.

Obviously it's forced. It's more like a contest. All contests will have you be FORCED to choose between certain things. May it be music, scripting, engines, whatever.

It doesn't hurt anyone to either do this, or to not. The general idea is, if you do it, do it, and see how it turns out. For fun. You're only forced to do something, if you decide to do it.

It's much more fun, if you do it as a game. Making some movie out of it, would just be so lame, short, and overly done.

There is nothing at all, wrong with doing this.
no i mean forced in that coming up with the idea is forced. like various minecraft clones being put out there for obvious reasons. its even more dumb because it really doesn't take advantage of video games as a medium.

I still don't see how this is a bad idea. It seems like a very creative way to get a game made, creating your own resources, that the whole community can do. I don't see what isn't being taken advantage of.
I don't see a problem with it. It'd be interesting to see how each user would do their graphics/maps/music.
If I have the time, I'm in, though that depends on what RM is used. If it's RM2K3, I'm good.

I don't have anything against the idea (I don't think I will be joining/would join) but asking for NO RTP/NO RIPS for a small community event such as this is a bad idea for sure.
And no, I'm not saying "rips or bust" and it isn't terribly hard for people to make their own resources, although most would probably turn out shitty. (We can't all be Jude or Nessiah) not for an event such as this.
I think people would rather spend their time and energy investing into their own game rather than something that might just fail.

Buut, even the OP said you can use mac and blue if you want, and I think having a general feel would be better than a ton of people making good and bad graphics for whatever game everyone chooses.
I guess the only problem I see with choosing FF7 is that someone is already recreating it pretty faithfully from the beginning in rpgmaker.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well recreating it faithfully is not really the goal here. The goal is to recreate it dischordantly. I mean have you seen Star Wars Uncut? If you're not familiar with it you should watch like 10 minutes of it to get the idea. Every 15 seconds is made completely differently with hugely varying amounts of time, budget, effects, accuracy, and acting skill. While individual contributors attempted to make their own 15 second parts have high quality, there is absolutely no overall attempt at quality by the organizers, and that is on purpose.

If rips and RTP are the difference between getting enough people and not getting enough people, then we allow rips and RTP. I think a lot of the charm is that nothing looks the same, but I also understand that enforcing any kind of production guidelines is against the nature of SW Uncut, so I can swing either way.

I'm sorry, I was ill-informed!
I get the novelty of it, I guess my main point was the graphics, I just see more people joining if they don't have to make custom graphics, although it would be funny to see something go from semi-professional to MS paint art.

no its not dude, it doesn't take advantage of how video games work. the format of a movie is not the same as a game where literal (and linear) timing + "events that occur" is completely different. a chain game like befuddled quest has guidelines like "TIME BASED PUZZLES" where things actually make sense and is organized via hub world rather than EVERY 15 SECONDS which isn't manageable in a game.

with rpg maker there wouldn't be much variation, it's still top down, it's still tile based art, it'll have message boxes for dialogue, and it's probably going to be the same type of art if its just RTP and rips. i really find it hard to believe you can replicate SW uncut's brilliance in a bunch of rpg maker cutscenes lmao. whoever is on board with this seriously needs to revise the idea heavily. it'd be better if it were just a chain game of like... idk recreations of people fav rpg dungeons or something, at least that has more GAME input.

It'd be BETTER, if you just allow it and not try to force your overly judgmental BS on the others who actually want to do this. If you don't like it, and think it'd be a waste, good for you. But unless you're the GOD of gaming, and actually the one to create videos games from the start, I don't see much reason to listen to you, if you're just going to ramble on about how bad it is.

I can see the help in your post, but it's more over-shadowed by the 'My Opinion is fact, learn it or else' way of thinking and doing. Whether or not you view my post as correct in any sense, doesn't matter.

People are either going to do it, or not, and those who like it, like it. There is no logical EXPLANATIONS on how bad it is, that can change the wants of the others, if they don't care about what you're trying to say, and more-so care about the actual project.

It's up to each individual to determine what is a bad idea. No one else.
I'm sorry Thiamor, I wasn't aware that this was a police state and dissenting ideas weren't allowed.

HEY EVERYONE. UNLESS YOU'RE AGREEING WITH WHAT'S BEING SAID, SHUT THE FUCK UP. I BETTER NOT CATCH ANY OF YOU MOTHERFUCKERS DISAGREEING WITH THE CONSENSUS
I like the idea, I just watched Star Wars Uncut, thank you very much for introducing it to me. I think there are ways we could make this work.

- Each person gets a cut-scene segment or map if they wind up with gameplay.
- So that the game can actually be played, people should be alotted variables and switches (say 5 variables and 5 switches each), as well as slots in the database for heroes and monsters.
- Let's not forget that you can change system graphics, face sets, character graphics, etc at any time. Outside of that, again, each person could have their own Cloud etc entered into the hero database (again, set slots aside)
- Making it cohesive will not be difficult, we will just have to change the party/ graphics at the start of each new map/ cutscene clip.

Sounds like a cool idea. Count me in if it goes ahead.
