ATTENTION: GAMING WORLD REFUGEES
Posts
Man a lot of you "GW Refugees" are pretty damn annoying. I just read through that big topic on GW and there's nothing wrong with what they want to do. They want to expand GW's potential to something beyond RPG Maker, so the site appeals to actual indie game developers, and I'm behind that 100%. I don't even get the drama and I have a hard time understanding how anybody could be AGAINST that.
Places like RMN are better suited for RPG Maker-centric folks anyway. GW's a great forum as a whole, but lots of people (G&Ders) refuse to look at it as a whole and are content within their exclusive little community. With attitudes like that, I think that it's best for everyone (the G&Ders, GW as a whole and RMN) that those members are able to come to places like RMN and RMXP.org, which are dedicated to the kind of community that they are looking for.

GW is awful because every topic I look at is filled with douchebags who think typing like a 10 year old is the highest form of comedy.

Refuges, obviously. Our website is sponsored by Ducks Unlimited and the World Wildlife Fund.
Duh.
Okay, sorry man. I must have been confused!

Exactly. This is what I've been saying for quite some time, now.
author=Despain link=topic=1022.msg14504#msg14504 date=1210007209Yeah I'm all for it. Honestly, when Sanosuke and Blindmind(no offense to you guys I love you all) came in and said "WELL I DIDN'T READ THE TOPIC BUT YOURE ALL WRONG" and proceeded to flame and call everyone elitist, I kinda just went =x. The only thing that did was make us look even worse(and then you wonder why they hate us). But on the flip side, they give off that feeling of pushing the others to the side without consulting them first. There definitely needs to be more active G&Ders outside of the G&D forum.

GW doesn't want to be dedicated to just RM, which is a good thing. The people who are just dedicated to that though might feel a little out of place, since they are trying to expand quite a bit. It might be awhile though, they never really seem to actually do much other than change the forums around.
Basically, they need GW6 to accomplish what they want. Period.

But whatever. I really haven't been a part of the GW community since Legion left (I went to ghostlight, too) I am old hat.
Ghostlight is still alive. It was part of Township Games for a while, but almost everyone felt that TG was a stupid name for a site. (The Township was the lamest part of Breath of Fire II, after all- why shouldn't it apply here?)

A lot of you guys aren't understanding. It's not what they wanted to do, its the way they went about doing it. It was basically, this is what we want to do and if you don't like it your obviously an idiot. Many of the posts were just insults directed at G&D users and RM users in general. They're stereotyping everything together in a bad way.
That being said, the reason I didn't agree with it is because separating RM Demos and Other Maker demos into separate areas is only going to divide G&D, not make it better. In the end, the admins didn't go for that part of the idea anyway (which is good), but it bugged me how majority of the warn worthy posts in that topic were from mods and staff and not only normal members.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents and I'm done now. Do with it what you will.

I agree with all of this. You have to understand that GW is a pretty insular community. It has a definite in crowd where you pretty much have to be in that in crowd to really feel a part of that community. Sure, you can post alongside the little in circle, but unless you happen to be a certain kind of person, you'll never really be able to BE a part of their community. It's been like this for quite some time, starting with the decline of their mainsite.
With that said, while I don't disagree with what GW's doing, it's just cementing the fact the RM scene and community is just better off elsewhere. Instead of pointing fingers and saying it's someone's fault, I'd rather say it's just "irreconcilable differences". GW is no longer the place for RM users.

This is pretty much the standard Gaming World spin control line. Honestly, I would be all for making an indie specific gaming forum (note: Game Maker is in no way more indie than RPG Maker.) The probelm isn't what they want to do, Despain, it's why they want to do it and how they are going about it.
"let's get rid of g&d entirely. fuck these talentless assholes. there is no excuse why an rpg maker vx game should get more posts than a cactus game."
"I don't care if gw is rpg making at its core. The rpg maker scene is completely worthless and produces nothing but hype topics and screenshots and character bios (occasionally someone releases a tech demo)."
"And also GW cares way too much about catering to untalented dumbasses."
There are direct quotes from that thread by the GW brass trying to create the forum. Obviously this is a slight against RPG Maker users. This kind of mentality has been in place there for several years now and seems to get worse each passing month. People aren't leaving there because GW wants to make a new forum (they do that every week), people are leaving because they are tired of being talked down to and told how pathetic they are.
That said, this topic was never meant to continue the discussion. It happened there, not here, and we don't want the drama. We're going to focus on RMN and GW is free to do whatever it wants to do, including persecute its own userbase. Topic locked.
