MAKE TUTORIAL PLZ

"Make tutorial plz"

It really bugs me when I see a message of the sort pop up on a screenshot or topic or youtube video of...nearly anything really, games inclusive.

As an example, I came across a youtube video showing off some different systems and artwork in an rm2k3 game. Somewhere near the top, I see a comment that goes along the lines of "omg amazing, plz make a tutorial!"

Now normally, if the person was seriously asking for instruction, and actually followed up on the commenter's/OP's recommendations, and actually took some initiative, then there isn't really a problem. What bugs me is when someone asks for tutorials and basically expect to be spoon fed everything, and that's only IF they ever show up on the page again. I see comments asking for tutorials, and the commenter posts once, then never returns. I've seen others just not bother with it when the OP recommends finding the different instructional pages through a search engine or even if the tutorial isn't in a video format, and they actually have to read through a document.

It could just be me, but to be honest, I don't understand the lack of motivation to actually LOOK for information and tutorials yourself. You have search engines and the world wide web at your disposal, and despite the abundance of information, you don't bother using any of it and just ask someone else to get it for you.

Perhaps I'm being a bit oversensitive. What are your opinions on the topic?
Honestly, I can relate. Whenever I do something the first thing people ask is TUTORIALS and I just go, I self learned these by playing around with the program! Why can't you do that or google a tutorial?! In the end I look for tutorials and just dump it on whoever who asks me so it'll be less dickish.

orz.
I know exactly what you're talking about. Sadly, this is the solid truth. People want to be spoon-fed things because they lack the skill to do it themselves. Game design is a learning curve, you can't be expected to eat off a platter handed to you by royalty. You pick from the ground and forge your learning skills that way.

It's really annoying. I had a friend post a video about his TBS in RPG Maker 2003, and loads of people were going;

"oh ths is kl, can u plz tell me how u do it?"
"plz tell me how to do this"
"OMG PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ THIS IS SO COOL O.O"
"How did u make this? plz tell me"
Ironically, 90% of whom the video posters comments were just ignored when he replied.

"Look, I can't just "slap on a plaster" and make everything work for you. You have to have advanced knowledge of variables, switches, branches and pictures."

People are offended by being told the truth, and try to reap their anger to cover for their inability to create that system themselves. Making one line claims, (in bad grammar, I might add) won't really bag you a reply of any constructional sort.

I think the reason people just keep spamming when some new system they like is out, is because they someone did better than they did. There is always someone who is going to make a batter game than you. And even if not so, you're always looking for improvements, no?

Things like caterpillar systems and menu systems come from tutorials, sure, But there are things you can't just explain within 2 pages of a paragraph.

Personal skill and development is the way to go.
Yeah, it really is unfortunate. Usually, I try to gain some familiarity with a program on my own, and usually after I would find instructions or tutorials on my own and work my way up. It's common sense. People seem to expect that they can just be given the information, expect to do little to no work, and become a prodigy. It's really irritating.
They also may want to know how to do it so they can expand upon it themself. Otherwise they're being lazy.

There's a LOT of immaturity in those demands sometimes, kids who just ask mindlessly, like they would an icecream, without realizing what they're asking and what it implies. There's also the idiot (or both) who think they're on the point of making the greatest game in the world after having asked "how do you do this" about eveything they find supercool (but that's also very immature).
Then there's the cheater type, less sympathetic and just as stupid.
There's also very reasonable demands amongst them, of course.

edit : it's true that the degree of motivation also makes an enormous difference with how much you'll actually figure out by yourself.

Remember when I actually used to make games? Me neither.

It`s even more stupid when someone makes a cbs for 2k3 and demands a script. Goddamn script kiddies, learn to distinguish 2k3 from xp or vx. And no events for you.

Well hey, copy+pasting IS a hell of a lot more desirable. Less effort.

If I made a CBS, I wouldn't be probably happy if an everyday script kiddie went to copy-paste my CBS in his project. Although, probably the systems are always way too complex to be understood anyone else but their creator, so I have no idea what I'm ranting here right now.
I don't mind though if they take a peek to figure out how the fuck do magnets and modulus work.
I suppose everyone has done that at some point.
can anyone give me a tutorial on how to make an antagonizing topic about people I don't really see much of?

In that case, use this BBCode and you'll do well.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

It depends on what the person is asking a tutorial on in my opinion. However, I believe the best learning method for any engine, coding, or program is always personal experience. I find it best to push those people in the right direction and encourage them to try something on there own. Well, that or blocking them if they don't take a hint. :)
