IS IT WRONG TO DO THIS?

Of course, Sailerius feels strongly about this, but it's his right to. I honestly think either viewpoint is as valid as the other, considering for most of us this is a hobby out of hobbies.

The time I could spend spriting, making music, etc is time I'd much rather spend doing something else more important to me.

You could have used Marcel Duchamp as an example, it fits better.

And something that may surprise you, for me Andy Warhol sucks, not because he "steals", it's just that I could never get into his stuff, on the other hand Marcel Duchamp and Dada in general rock, for destroying art so it could be reconstructed years later as something new.

But hey! I'm not mad at you or anything, we all have opinions we like to express ;)

Oh, and thanks for expressing you opinion as well Sailerius!
Marcel Duchamp is a perfect example, thank you (ironically).

But of course by some metrics (Sailerius'?) he's a dirty thief and not an artist at all, but just a thief. Not that amateur game makers are quite on the same metric playing field as Marcel Duchamp, but he's an excellent example of what I am trying to get across.
Hey, who else has seen Exit Through the Gift Shop? :D Every one of us should watch it! It's all about art and the question of what makes art have value, and is totally relevant to us as artists and game designers. Andy Warhol coming up in the topic made me think of it.
I'll echo that using rips from old games is wrong, but I'll add that taking from your peers is several magnitudes worse.
