I don't subscribe to copyright laws. I download music, burn disc based video games, and rip off other peoples game ideas. Good luck stopping me.

Copyright laws are there to protect tangible things, not ideas themselves. I might make a game making engine but I can't make RM. RM is tangible, but the idea of a game making engine isn't, or else there wouldn't be engines like Renpy, ika, RPG Toolkit.

To make a more relevant point. I may make a game based on time travel where you have to fight a great evil that's destroying the world with a gang comprised of a young girl, a robot-like being and an animal girl. So would I have Chrono Trigger or Radiant Historia? Answer? Both.

Even better example. I might make a cartoon about a lion whose father is killed and is the king of animals and whose name rhymes with Limba. Would I have The Lion King or Kimba the White Lion?

A movie about star-crossed lovers who both come from different societies yet somehow learn to get along and create peace between both their tribes, but not before the destruction of one or the other is imminent in the first place. Avatar or Pocahontas?

The truth is, how many stories in both anime, film, books and games are alike? Most of them. "Nothing is new under the sun" is an apt adage. Or "Good writers borrow, great writers steal." Or most of all "The details are all that count."

I recommend to use the engine START THAT SHIT NOW throw a coin, or a dice and randomly choose your engine, believe me, with any engine you can make what you want, (but you will have try to do it a little different of course depending on the engine, if you pick adventure game studio will be a totally different gameplay but I think you can do a pretty nice game with the same IDEA!!!!)

an rpg, don't know, maybe exploration....
or a more exotic game genre... (here use any engine that allows you more freedom BUT more freedom, A LOT MORE WORK!)

plot:
in year XXXX (don't have idea for a year) games are now being nothing and forgotten. but a certain retired gamer want games to be back to the world. but game designing is now hard to learn and come by since no one remember how to create a game but he meet some new friend. (i don't want to spoiled on what the whole plot.
game engine use: i was thinking to use renpy unless if you have another idea.
well i was thinking of using your username on rpgmaker.net (with your permission of course) when the main character find out about that typical person old username (since rpgmaker.net will not exist anymore within that timeline)

In order for the plot to make sense you'd have to set detailed, plausible commercial, historical and social reasons why games aren't made nor played anymore.

Would the game be a visual novel then? What would set it apart from the others?
Unless this idea is further elaborated into something more substantial, it is pointless to judge how good it is.
