Well I'm glad I asked. UTAU is a free, slightly ghetto-er version of VOCALOID.
And...what is VOCALOID?

I actually like the j-pop so I really like vocaloid or utau music(well this is the first time I heard of utau) but the voices... really desesperate me, I don't like that artificial change of notes since the voice sound like it was cutted, so really I don't get closer to vocaloids music. I would only say that the ones that didn't know it wasn't a person until I read the comment that is a vocaloid, those really surprise me. And also there are some comedy songs on vocaloid that actually like despite the fake voice.
