A MICO SITUATION...WITH A MICROPHONE

You know, in my game, Shadow the Hedgehog 2:Revenge of Mephiles, I wanted there to be voice acting. Problem is, my microphone sucks. I don't know how to filter the scratchy fuzzy sound in the background, and it always gets in the way of the music. Plus, it's just f***ing annoying.
Also, anyone want to voice act in my game? Either JailBreakOut or Shadow 2. Doesn't matter.

Needed parts for JBO:
Samuel(main character):
Julie(second hero character):
NPCs:
Sonic(only will join your team if you beat him in a race):
Mario(beat him in a fight, then help him beat Bowser before Bowser gives over his part of the land to the main villain):
Me(will decide to join the group only if he trusts Samuel):me
Bowser(secondary antagonists, idiot dragon-turtle(koopa)):
Robotnic(secondary villain, idiot human-egg with an IQ of 300):
Mathew(my cousin):
Justin(my friend):
Regina(my mom:
Daniel(my dad):
Julia(ex-girlfriend):

(more will come if parts are filled, I'm not expecting all of these parts here to get filled, I'll do any remaining)

Parts in S2:ROM:
Shadow:
Mephiles:Me
G.U.N. officers:
Rouge:
NPCs:

Edit:2 microphones in case this is a problem: one built-in microphone and one input-microphone.
Remove the thought of adding voice acting.

Problem solved.

More than one?

Do you plan to voice the entire thing or just keep snippets of voice for little bits of dialogue now and then? Or even just voicing cutscenes?

If it's just snippets now and then to give some depth, you could just use ripped sounds from Mario and Sonic games. I know that if you have Sonic Adventure DX installed, you can just take the sounds straight from its folders (not that the voice acting in that was any good). Mario sounds are also everywhere on the internet, so those aren't tricky.

For original characters, if you want nice quality, you could find sounds from the 'net too but I doubt it'd be exactly what you want..

This is just a really easy suggestion for if you want a fast way to get around voice acting, and it works pretty well. If you're wanting something more professional and personalised, then I wish you good luck. :P
o.k., thanks guys*throws microphone at wall*JOKING!
I'll go try and find the voice clips I can, O.K.?

I can't name them, but. a few to none. Hey? Can't I be original?
Ha. Voice acting. Good luck with the 3-8+mb recordings per file, let alone several files for your 12 (If not more,) characters. Voice acting is in chunks. Chunks mean files. Files mean space, space means size. Size means how long it'll take to download your game. If its over 220 MB, I doubt people would download it. I know I wouldn't.

But don't let me stop you. I'd do a bit of voice acting for you, but

1. I have a mic, but it wouldn't be the right one to do voice acting anyway.

2. To make voices really effective, you need proper voice editing software.

3. I doubt my character voice would suit any one of these anyway.

Yea sure go ahead. If you feel you can do it well go for it! But if your microphone crackles and whatnot you might wanna try and get a better quality one if you can. Cheap microphones don't really do a good job of recording. Usually poor recording quality can be related to your hardware. You really don't need a expensive mic to record sounds. I bought my cheap TekNmotion headset for about 15-17$ from newegg. The playback is kinda soft and not as loud as I would like but its not bad. But the recording is pretty descent and i used it for voice chat in games and my buddy says its sounds pretty good for a cheap headset.

So are you just looking to fill in voice snippets or do full on voice acting like in cutscenes?

Originally I wanted this: "full on voice acting like in cutscenes?", but now, if I can get the files, I may want to try this "If it's just snippets now and then to give some depth, you could just use ripped sounds from Mario and Sonic games" before I do this "full on voice acting like in cutscenes?"
BRB...probably...

Just to nitpick also, I notice one of the main characters is called "Julie" but there's an important NPC called "Julia". I'm not saying it can't happen or that it's a bad idea, but do you think that would get confusing?

On a more related note, snippets of voice every now and then is probably the best way to go in terms of file size (you could reuse a sound over and over again) and also in terms of effort. :P So for example, if a character is shocked he'll go "huh?!" or "what?!" even if he's saying something completely different in text. It's a really popular technique in games and I find it quite enjoyable and immersive.

Yes, this is a very interesting idea I've seen in some even commercial games, and I think its a nice idea. Not only is is memory size efficient, but sometimes its a better route to voice acting. Not everyone likes over-excessive voice acting. Generally, smaller games (RM Games for example) don't really HAVE to have voice acting. It's unnecessary really. I would only add voices in battles, and as Caz explained, the odd "Wait who? what? where? when? how? huh? All right!" etc.

These ideas are great, and Caz, the idea your speaking of is in Sonic Battle, and that's what I wanted. Mean while, the file size issue is something I can fix when done with the game. As in, anything I don't use STFU and GTFO of my game, the STFU part almost literally for the sounds and such.
Now, I have a new problem:I can't find any Mephiles voices. I got all the Shadow voices I need, but without the Mephiles voices it'll sound out of place.

Yeah, I got a pack of sounds called the 'Sonic Battle Project' a year or two ago, but the sound quality from that game was pretty nasty in my opinion. Everything had this weird, robotic overtone to it that didn't suit the rest of the voices I had. Sonic Adventure has its share of "huh?" and "whoa!" noises which are good for use, though. Save for several where Tails sounds drugged. "Eeeegggmaaaannnnnn~.."

As for Mephiles, I'm not too fond of the newer Sonic characters and have never really tracked down any sound clips for them, so I'm afraid you're on your own. :( They should be easy enough to find with smidge of old Google-fu, though!

Oh no no, I don't swear too often. If I had a problem with someone, I'd just say it straight out instead of "FU."

(But I don't have a problem with you. :P)

o.k., also, I have someone working with me and he's waiting on an update about the game, better not keep him waiting!
