Is anyone interested in an Interactive Fiction game making competition thingie?
Inform 7 is very easy to write games in.

Its basically written in english. :P
If anyone is interested, please say so in this thread. (Dont have to use Inform 7, can be any program that results in a text based game.)
Rules:
The theme is... Zombie Politics! (Follow it as loosely as you want. idc)
2 week time limit, starting from Thursday the 26th of April. Ends May 10.
Entries will be voted on by RMN.
Prizes: I dunno. A general sense of awesomeness?
Game must be text based, static images are aloud, music is aloud.
Software required to run the game must be available for free, and you should give a link to it.
Theme will be revealed on the day, or possibly the day before it starts.
Inform 7 is a good language to write in, as a simple game is similar to actually righting a regular story.
You can get it here.
Teams would be aloud i suppose.

I didn't click this topic because the title didn't seem to be something interesting XD (didn't knew about Inform 7 until now) Funny thing that I was planning a text based game to get used with arrays and variables in java, so I am in (not with inform but you said it only needs to be a text based game)

Probably. I was thinking a week... But if your'e making it in Java... It would probably take A LOT longer... 0.0

I''ll be in, out of interest how text based is text based? put another way does it have to be an adventure game? as if not it allows for games which aren't really text based. For example I could probably make asteroids or space invaders really easily, not that I would. But yeah, what would count? like rags makes text based games with a graphical interface.

Im thinking, the majority of the game being text. And basically no animated graphics. Some stills are fine, but you cant make animations, moving sprites ect.
rags looks like it would be fine. But i would prefer almost entirely text based, with only the ocasional graphic.
OK. So.... Im going to add rules and the like the the OP.
People will have time to sign up. And if we get a few people joining, i wonder if the mods will let us have Acheivments or something... :P

To do or not, hmm... I suppose I'll do it should be a good learning experience at the
very least even if my game is horrible.
Hopefully I can figure out how to do the harder stuff as Inform does start to reveal as self as a programming language a bit more as you get more complex.

This sounds cool, but it would be even more awesome if we made a joint effort, each member would make a chapter.
But I guess we could start with the competition first and depending on how that goes...

That chain game sounds like a good idea. We should do that at some time after this one. :P

Maybe use this to give people an incentive (winning) to learning Inform 7 and then do the chain story as the chain story sounds like it could be very, very, interesting.

I should ask Kentona if we can get some sorta achievement from this, so that there is a real incentive for those who like actual important stuff. (Makerscore = Very important.)
But yeah, after this, if people enjoyed it and want to, we could do a chain game type thing in Inform 7. (iirc Inform 7 actually lets you specify different authors for different chapters)

That looks like a triple post to me, also I've never really done something like this so it should be interesting for me and possibly slightly traumatising with how horrible it will be but it should be good either way. So far I've been messing around with Inform and it's surprisingly difficult to make some things work like teleporters for example are being evil but it will be cool when they work.
