Secure the envelope and sprint down the dirt path toward the lone door, shoulder lowered.

yeah, go with him. This sounds good Brandon.
Inspect the ground and surrounding area for footprints, tiretracks or other activity.
7.

Inspecting the dirt road and the area around the door, you see signs of obvious recent activity. The wear pattern of tire tracks in the ground tells you that a small number of vehicles come and go to this place regularly. The pattern also informs you that these vehicles stop for some time, turn around, and drive straight down the road from which they arrived; they do not travel around the premises of the building.

There are dozens of sets of foot prints leading to and from the door of the building. Most of them are measured and even - the footsteps of people with things to attend to. A small minority of the sets of footprints are wild and erratic: crude scrapes that kick up dust and disturb the carefully pressed imprints of others. Curiously, the steady footprints lead to and from the door, while the uneven footprints lead only to it.

The general state of the dirt road informs you that it is regularly replenished with fresh dirt and smoothed over. The road has a distinct grade to it, reinforcing the notion that it is maintained.

Turning to look at the building's door, you decide that your best course of action would be to ram it. You take several steps back, lower your shoulder, and propel yourself forward like a missile. You and the door collide with enormous force.

Suddenly, you realize that you have been unconscious for a minute or two. You are sitting on the ground, facing the fully-intact door of the building. Your shoulder is in great pain and you are bleeding from the scalp. Your attempt to ram the door has resulted only in an injured shoulder and a minor concussion. Neither of your injuries are probably very serious.

Based on the location of the sun, you guess that it is midday and that you are on the north side of the building. You are holding a plain, unmarked, empty envelope. You feel disoriented and woozy.
Jeez you guys, quit hurting the protagonist! We want to live to the end of the Choose Your Own Adventure.

Investigate the ordinary well, then go to the fountain and see if it will tell you to clean your face.
Look for something on the dirt road that can break down the door. Just watch out for slimes!

You search the ground for a useful striking object of any sort, such as a tool, a stone, or a sturdy branch. You find nothing.

You decide to follow the neatly carved tire tracks down the dirt road. The sandy surface, having baked in the sun for hours, feels rough and hot under your feet. You occasionally step on a small rock or pebble with your injured foot, causing you to wince. Several hours pass as you walk down the straight, neat road.

The sun hangs low in the sky, now, and the songbirds have gradually faded to a quiet hush. It is not late enough for the insects to have come out with their buzzes and chirps, so the late afternoon is quiet and still. The air feels heavier and more cool with each passing hour. Your body is casting a long and ominous shadow down the road in front of you, a mysterious giant leading the way.

The view in front of you is the same as it was several hours ago - that of a well-kept dirt road cutting a straight line through a vast, flat prairie for as long as you can see. The plain stucco building you had just left is now miles behind you and only barely visible in the southern horizon.

Based on the sun, you guess that it is late afternoon and you are walking north. You are holding a plain, unmarked, empty envelope. You feel disoriented, woozy, and physically exerted.

Masturbate, check the envelope for secret compartments, then take a nap.
Start looking for shelter/water.

lol, i'll second this as well, but wouldn't take a nap at the end. :)

You search the area within several hundred feet of either side of the road, looking for a source of water or shelter. After a minute of searching, you discover a trap door on the ground 250 feet west of the dirt road.

The trap door is made of thick boards that have obviously been rotting for years. It is shut and padlocked with an old, rusty combination lock. The prairie grasses have grown in and around the mossy boards, informing you that the door has obviously not been used for years. From the other side of the door, you hear what sounds like the trickle of a small stream.

Based on the sun, you guess that it is late afternoon and that you are west of the dirt road and north of the stucco building. You are holding a plain, unmarked, empty envelope. You feel disoriented, woozy, and physically exerted.
Kick the rotted boards (good foot please)^.^.
Find a rock to bash in the rotting doors (let's keep the good foot for later!)
10.

You decide that your priority right now is to get to the other side of the trap door before sunset. You search all around for a bashing implement of any sort, finding nothing but millions of blades tall grass. Against your better judgment, you balance on your injured foot, bringing your other up high. You drive your foot down, forcefully. You clench your teeth, anticipating horrible injury to follow.

The boards are so rotten that they give way to your stomping foot without any resistance or sound whatsoever - it feels almost as if you are stomping through a dry sponge. Pieces of the trap door fall down and down into the very dark hole beneath. You do not hear the pieces land. You check, and double-check, and are surprised to find that you have not, in fact, driven your foot through a rusted nail or received injury of any sort. You check for wounds a third time.

You squint down the hole that you have uncovered, but no matter how hard you try, you cannot see to the bottom. A rusted but sturdy-looking ladder leads down into the hole, bolted to the stonework all around the edges of a shaft. It all stretches down into an inky blackness.

The sound of running water is much louder now that you have obliterated the trap door. What you had guessed was a small stream you now imagine is probably a rushing underground river. Moist, cool air radiates from deep inside the shaft, which helps you realize you are incredibly thirsty. You have no idea how far away the underground river is, but it sounds very distant.

Based on the sun, you guess that it is early in the evening and that you are west of the dirt road and north of the stucco building. You are holding a plain, unmarked, empty envelope. You feel disoriented, woozy, physically exerted, and very thirsty.
