Goddamn. I played MMOs for freakin' ever.

I think I started when I was 14 with Ultima Online. It was almost into its 3rd year when I started it and it was a blast! I didn't play on an official server and instead played on an #rpgmaker guy's private shard. I was probably the strongest guy in that damned server before his folks pulled the plug on the server because of the bandwidth that was being consumed. After that some other guys tried putting up servers but it never really fell through. Tried to make a Star Trek themed one with some one where I made most of the graphics for. Was fun for a bit but it didn't really go anywhere.

As for a list of the MMOs I've played(some extensively some for about two months, I tried to beta most of them but lack of computer powers really allowed me to do ALL of them. I beta'd about 10% of the games I can think of and my mother has a South Korean Social Security Number so it's fun to play the korean games that don't come out here.):
Ultima Online
Everquest
Everquest II(Quit after my free time was up. Original was better. :P)
Anarchy Online
Lord of the Rings Online(Playing right now)
Maple Story
Asheron's Call
Auto Assault
Cabal Online
Ragnarok Online(Really got into this. Invited the girlfriend to play with me to make it spicier.)
City of Heroes
MU Online(Played with my current girlfriend also but like 3 years ago.. maybe 4. Uh oh...)
ROSE Online
Guild Wars(Playing right now)
Dark Age of CAmelot
Planetside(Playing right now)
Rising Force Online(Playing right now)
The Matrix Online
Dofus(Flash-based Tactical MMORPG that sucked after a week of play)
Dungeons and Dragons Online(Playing right now)
Lineage I
Lineage II
EVE Online(Playing right now, owner of a corporation and the largest transport ship in the game)
Redmoon Online
Phantasy Star Online(I was fond of playing PS and PSO on Dreamcast)
Priston Tale
Final Fantasy XI
Neocron
Fly For Fun
Puzzle Pirates
Runescape
Furcadia(Yes. I did. An #rpgmaker chick made me. Fucking chicks.)
Granado Espada
Sword of the New World(Granado Espada for the North Americans. Playing it right now.)
Shadowbane (Beta'd for it, played it for a bit, then it sucked. Tried it again when it went free in '06)
The Saga of Ryzom.
...oh and World of Warcraft and other various free MMOs such as Gunbound and various MUDs of whom or which you've probably not heard of because they are created overnight. My most favorite one was Legends.

Some I want to try out soon are:
Vanguard
Aion(not out yet)
Age of Conan(not out yet)
Warhammer Online(not out yet)
Huxley(not out yet)
Stargate Worlds(not out yet)
MAYBE try Star Wars Galaxies. Not really a fan of the Star Wars stuff.

I have a lot of Beta applications out and plan to Beta for the lastest and greatest now that I have a pimp rig to fiddle with.

Pay to play is a non-issue to me. But I do wish more MMOs made you feel like the world was alive. How long has that damn bridge in Lakeshire been under repair? Almost three years now.

Is it bad that I know EXACTLY what you're talking about?
Gadreel: Don't bother playing Vanguard or Starwars Galaxies unless it's to buffer your list. They're both very unimpressive. Galaxies used to be a really good game, but like most MMOs, it's at a point where its so old that you can't get into it and play at a competitive level like other people. Plus, like, everyone can be a Jedi now or something which is lame.

Vanguard just fell short of all the expectations people had for it, and as a result, there aren't too many devoted players to the game so it's hard to find groups once you get to the higher levels. Also, there are very few good, solid guilds to play with.

Roger that good, buddy! I just want to try them out and see for myself. I'd like to be able to say something sucks through my personal experience instead of what other people said. :)

Ragnarok Online for DS? My life is officially over.
You know an absolutely WONDERFUL game that gives the addictive sensation of an MMORPG grind without the downside of putting up with idiot players, an unchanging world, or half the monotony?

Star Control II. (AKA, Ur-Quan Masters)

Single player space exploration sim where you travel the galaxy stock-piling resources, negotiating with well-written alien lifeforms, and customizing your Vindicator starship to suit your needs.

Not online or anything, but it was addictive for a lot of the same reasons an MMO is. Also has the slight advantage of being absolutely FREE.
I play Shadowbane:Throne of Oblivion.
Info:
Shadowbane first came out in 1998 it is a mmorpg made for PvP there are no quest's or dungeon's to raid only thing to do is hunt and kil monsters get high level buy good weapons and armor go out and fight you can make a guild and if your good anoth to beat another guild that own's a town you can take control of it under your guild name.
some time betrwin 2006-2007 it become a free to play and download mmorpg main thing to do is rule a town it is like real life and the main enemy is other people just imagin there ether nazi's or terriost : ) I dont doe hehe
MMORPGs are evil....

Well it's fun for a WHILE I guess, but usually I end up with my mouse hovering over the add/remove icon...

Took me 30 minutes of coming back and going back, deciding whether I should delete Guild Wars or not. Finally did, though. ;/
I was never really one for investing several hours in level grinding. The rates for most commercial MMORPG's these days is just plain ridiculous. Like previously pointed out, hunting a thousand monsters ten times stronger than you are just to gain one level is a little too much for my shortish attention span. I've tried several commercial MMO's, among which were iRO, pRO, Rising Force, and ROSE. I found RF somewhat interesting, but the specs pretty much murdered my ancient PC.

After those, I tried my luck with a high rate RO server. Since exp was easier to come by, I could invest more time in customization. There's a larger portion of players in the max level so when competing with them in PvP, strategy becomes a bigger factor than it did before. I'd spend my time exploring and hunting monsters for cards I can synthesize with my equipment and I made several different kinds of equipment for several different scenarios in PvP. Fighting in RO gets old and boring quick, but at least it beat having to grind for hours for a measly one or two levels. Immediate rewards, I suppose.
