AN OFFICIAL *ENGLISH* VERSION OF 2K3 APPROACHES!

My feelings on this? Free market, bitch. If people will buy it, sell it.

Except for working on Chronology for kicks, my military career has effectively wiped out my status as 'game maker', so I feel as I don't really have any particular bias anymore. My stance is still the same though; let people make what they want.
I think it's wasted effort unless all the bugs are fixed and some updates are made to the program.

Couldn't tell you which updates, mind, but this program is far past its prime and I think Degica's efforts could be better spent promoting VXA.

WHOA wow wow. two tails? that is a sexy idea...

how is having this legal relevant to anyone? like, people use these programs because of the vast amount of stolen/rips. so i do not see how making it legal improves anything.

you cannot sell it, so, what is the difference? it would be useful to a small minority of human beings who actually use original resources, but that's it.

i see all these people all for it, and it's just 99% RTP users so, i am honestly confused as to why making an outdated program legal would be helpful to anyone.

it would not even sell well because there are so many people riding on the xp, vx, whatever train where they can just insert various stolen scripts to create A++gameplay, if they had to actually work on certain mechanics it would probably blow their mind.
Realistically making it legal at this point is probably a stupid idea, because everyone who already wants it has it at this point. The fact that there's a petition to make it legal assumes that at at least those people will buy it.
So is it worth the time, effort, man hours, money, etc to make that happen? I certainly don't think so.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

In a perfect world, this is how a petition like this would work. Sadly, following through with commitments is not one of this community's strong suits, nor is willingness to pay for shit you don't have the rights to. If this makes Enterbrain some money, I'll be pretty happy, because that money will help fund future RM work... but my expectations are low, and I don't want them to lose money, because that money could be helping to fund future RM work. I mean, that's my bottom line, right there: will this help or hurt their budget for RPG Maker VX Ace 2? I want it to have a bigger budget.

On the other hand I wonder if they could just, like, sell the existing translation and pay Don Miguel 20% of the profits. That would reduce their overhead by a bunch, right? Maybe not. I wonder how the extra legal fees compare to a translator's wages. And they still have to make a website to sell it.
I don't know, I'd like to thing there are enough potential buyers out there to make this a profitable enough endeavor, even if people are not signing the petition right now. (Gee, I almost don't sign based on the fact that online petition are often useless anyway.) ...I mean, if it were a reality, I would probably buy it if only just to clear my conscience a bit, like WIP said. But I most certainly keep using my spanish-translated, patched-to-death version of it, since my game wouldn't benefit much from that purchase. xP

Edit: If only they could modernize the engine a bit. Just the fundamentals, like fixing the ATB bar, and the broken Reflect status, and maaaybe adding functionality for 24 bit color graphics, I'd buy a copy for everyone on this thread! =P Not really.

Off-topic, but related: I actually do own a physical copy of RM2k3. I love it dearly.

I'd support this if they could modernize up the engine a bit. The only reason I've stuck with 2k3 is because I've invested so much time in my project I'd feel bad switching to something else, even if it's age is showing.
Cost confirmed: if we do get enough votes it'll be set at $20. Nice and cheap.
My project at this point is so tricked out that a domestic release of 'vanilla 2k3' would do it very little good. Unless they address certain faults in the default engine or have some sort of leeway for patches...

But I do like the idea of having the program available and out there. Plus the confirmed cost is so cheap that it's really no trouble at all to support it.

That said, I have signed it. Can't hurt.

My mind is full of fuck.

I think they should release new resources with it.
20 dollars for ten year old software? I would much rather the effort went into patching and updating whatever they currently do (VXA). I for one would much rather see a "rm2k" pack for VXA (the rtp, some scripts for making it look and play like rm2k/3 and whatever else they could throw in there).

It just seems to me horribly backward to put in effort to translate a ten year old program, but like Feldschlacht said it's a free market, if people buy it then by all means sell it.

The only real way I would support this is if they did it like a nostalgia item. Run a "limited edition" of rm2k3 in a proper box with a proper manual and other fun tidbits. I mean the people who are likely to buy a translated rm2k3 would basically throw money at the developers if they did that. (hahaha, maybe do a rm2k3 translation Kickstart!)

That would be pretty sweet! I'd support this.
...Aaanyway. Shouldn't this be on the frontpage or something? You know, for all those people who don't visit the forums and such?

Edit: @ankylo: Oh, the irony...
I'm definitely signing this..rm2k3 is one of my more favorable rpgmaker engines~ :) (I mostly use Ace, But I love what people have done with this honestly!)
The Internet. Where anything can turn into an argument! I signed, what's the big deal? It's not like they are killing kittens or anything and I hate cats. It's a poll. On the Internet. For something that may or may not happen. Won't affect any of you in a negative way whatsoever.

Pre-emptive Edit: Craze. Of course you are disgusted. Your attitude is disgusting and doesn't belong here.

To quote myself from the topic/poll on RPGMakerWeb:
I, personally, say a resounding YES to the question and would buy RM2K3 no matter how expensive it will be. (≧▽≦)ノ

Would be awesome if RM2K Value! got an English translation too, just saying. No upper limit on price here either, I'd buy it regardless of price in a heartbeat. (。= ω =。)

That doesn't mean I will let others do whatever they want because they don't necessarily affect me negatively. I will always have an opinion on the matter.

Part of the cost of spending time and resources on one thing is NOT spending them elsewhere, and this is the main point of many people here; why waste time translating a 10-year old software for old times' sake? It is much more efficient to release resource packs for the current maker.
Will sign this! Perhaps there should also be legal translations of other rpg makers (RPG Maker 95, RPG Maker 2000, Simulation RPG Maker). Also any lingering bugs should be fixed.
petition the console version next. so i could buy for my 3ds system.
