Is there a reason for this or?
Because it has a lot of the same features and grid based characters as RPGM2K3.

As ShortStar explained, it was probably the closest maker to 2k3. XP and VX didn't have the same "feel" and "liking" like VXa and 2k3.

I mean, sure it's a bit different, of course, but it hosts a wider variety of things that you couldn't do in 2k3. You probably could, but it would take pages and pages and pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of coding.

One of the things that kept making me "consider VX Ace" is a lot of the new features people kept repeating. Like custom damage formulas based off stats other than Atk Def and Magic(!). Scripts of course, I'm saying scripts because I went from 2k3 to VXa, not from XP/VX > VXa. Scripts in Ace are just... :D I know it may come in the norm for people who have used scripts since XP+ but you get my drift.

The mapping system in Ace is seeeeeeeeexxxxxxxxy. this is another thing that made me jump from 2k3 > Ace. The mapping system in Ace is the best thing since XP, but I didn't like XP for many reasons, though it is still a nice maker. Ace has a kind of "mix and match" system which just practically made me fall in love with it.

Though the eventing is not as powerful as it is in 2k3, 'nothing a few scripts which enables bigger conditional branches and stuff won't fix.

And from the "commercial" side. It's the latest maker, and it's definitely the most improved one.
I love VX Ace, I wish I would have found out about it before I got so deep into my current 2K3 project. Now I'm painfully finishing my 2K3 project and making the sequel in VX Ace. It's like jumping from one system generation to another. Here is a better way to say what I mean, It's kinda like this. Say some random company made and RPG for the Xbox, then then the sequel was for the Xbox 360.

EDIT: No matter what though, 2K3 will always have a special place in my heart.

Totally. It always will. That's why I was just sitting and wondering why weapons and armour wouldn't show up in the item screen... remnants of 2k3 burn from within!

If you want them in-battle, you can edit this in Window_BattleItem:
#--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  # * Include in Item List?
  #--------------------------------------------------------------------------
  def include?(item)
    $game_party.usable?(item)
  end

If you want EVERYTHING EVER to be shown, just make the line "return true" and it'll throw in every inventory item.

...but you probably just meant "I forgot that there are item categories in the menu." Yeah, uh, I just wanted to show how easy it is to make small changes to make your game your own. =,)
Holy damn, thanks for that, Craze. :O! See, I'm trying to learn a bit of RGSS3 in bits. Mostly the basic class modules and what all of the syntax mean. Tinkering with the basic scripts is how I'm slowly learning at the moment.

That's how you do it. I highly recommend setting small goals for yourself within in the core scripts, and then the Yanfly scripts. For example, make critical hits deal bonus damage based on DEX, or flip the y-position of the YF Battle Engine Ace HP/MP bars (like this), or make gold drops randomized +-10%.

That's how I learned!
Good advice. I know nothing of ruby apart from adding <notes> and a few minor text and co-ordinate edits, so I don't really know anything to do with the syntax language, so I'm simply trial and erroring till my script breaks, then I grab a new one and try something else. :D

Apply these and their add-ons. Play with them. They're one of the best ways to get used to Ruby/RGSS3 while having a clue what you're doing.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I learned RGSS by downloading scripts which turned out to have bugs in them, not being able to find equivalent working ones or get in contact with the script creators, and then having to fix the bugs myself before I could use them. FML. I don't recommend learning this way.

RMXP in a nutshell

i.e don't get it if you value your sanity
I learned RGSS by making my own (incomplete) menu system and using the help file, googling up on Ruby, and reading the default XP scripts. For some absurd reason I only used Windows and bitmaps, no actual sprites classes. It... kinda had some problems (which may not be immediately apparent)
