DRAGONS DOGMA, ANYONE HEARD ABOUT THIS RPG FROM CAPCOM?

So today I just accidentaly stumbled upon a gameplay video of this game, and holy bonkers does it look good or what?!

Open world rpg, "Oblivion meets Dark Souls"... How did I not notice this game sooner? It releases this month :D Marketing fail?

Just finished the demo, and it plays pretty epic. Though the demo is just two big boss fights, so it doesn't show much of the open-world exploration.

Might actually buy it later (will be too busy playing Diablo 3), if it seems worth it from reviews (though I'm sure big review sites will bash on it for no real reason, *cough* IGN *cough*).

This is a good play video. Makes me more interested. I remember when Dragon's Age 1 or 2 came out this game was announced and a lot of video game 'media' just LOLed saying Konami's version of Dragon Age...
Yeah, I have it preordered. You can get pawns to battle with you (they are fully customizable). You can get on monster's backs to attack them and so forth. It's supposed to be a really well thought out game.

looks hella fun. If I had a working PS3 I'd be all over this like a fat kid on Smarties.

If you’re looking for more information Good Game (an Australian gaming show) did a review of Dragons Dogma viewable on their website .

I haven't played this game and I never will. I have a very petty beef against it that dates back to when the game was first teased. Capcom had nothing more than a dragon silhouette with a countdown timer on it. A lot of people, myself included, assumed it would be a new Breath of Fire. After about two weeks of waiting, it turned out to be Dragon's Dogma. I was sad, and I still am.

Screw you Capcom, I wanted Breath of Fire.

Ok this is going to come of as extremely condescending and I apologise in advance if I offend you.

I’d love to see another Breath of Fire too, but that Is perhaps the single peatiest reason to boycott a game I have ever heard! Especially when there are plenty of legitimate reasons to boycott Capcom instead.

It’s almost as bad as Mass Effect fans burning an effigy Shepherd made out of copies of Mass 3 and threatening to kill everyone on Bioware’s development team because the ending didn’t come out the way you liked.
I'm really only half serious about not being interested in the game because it didn't turn out to be Breath of Fire.

I'll also add that I just have no interest in the game because I think it looks boring.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times. Someone need to find a way to properly convey sarcasm over the internet!

I might have to start putting a disclaimer in all my posts that nothing I say on these forums should be taken seriously.
Yeah, you should probably take everything I say with a grain of salt, including this very post.

You can totally convey sarcasm with just text alone. It's true.
It has absolutely nothing to do with tone of voice.

(Sarcasm, see?)
This is why I use smilies

(oh shit I just used a smilie, is that sarcasm or am I serious?)

I really enjoyed the demo, so I went ahead and bought this. So far, it already does one thing that kind of ticks me off. I would have liked to have made one each of the three basic character vocations, played the first area of the game with them all, and then decided which style I enjoyed the most. I would like to be able to do that without creating multiple profiles.

Then there is the advertisement for new dlc that pops up on the main menu screen...

Oh lame. One character per profile? That's some bullshit! What if you're Trophy hunting? Gotta delete game data to pull some more trophies?
Well, you can shift to any vocation/class with that character, so you could probably max them all out.

I'm enjoying the game, but I'm also having very mixed feelings about it. It is pretty much a single player mmo.

The ability to trade pawns with people online is a nice feature, but it only gets you about halfway there. The pawns learn about the areas, enemies, and quests that they get taken on, so you might be walking around and get little tips from your party.

I've only played one MMO before (the free to play Mega-Ten one) and I get a very similar feel from Dragon's Dogma. Kill X mobs in an area quests, and all. The pawns warning you about things almost makes it feel like you are playing with other people online, but it becomes hollow very fast. They get very repetitive with their hints/tips, and sometimes they come off just silly because they don't adjust to changes you've made in the area. I still have my team warning me about how dangerous an area is, even after I cleared it out and got a shopkeeper to set up in the middle.

The lack of world impact also bothers me, because encounters/giant monsters respawn in the exact area and condition (like an MMO). Some cases, usually quest related, let you clear an area out (as mentioned above), but usually your efforts are a temporary gain at best.

The combat is fun, but some battles just drag on way too long. The gimmick is the "find the monster's weak spot" and "climb the monster to strike the weak spot" routine, and it works well. Some of the monster reactions are really well done, like the ogre jumping up and trying to smash you into the ground if you stay on his back too long, but once you've mastered the sequence to kill something it gets annoying to keep hacking away at three to seven layers of life bar.

It feels like a gateway drug for people who are curious about mmo's but don't actually want to put up with playing with other people.

My other gripe is not being able to spread my saves out. Normally, I like to save before taking a level up/new class skill in games so I can try things out. Due to the "like an mmo" feel this game has, that isn't an option. It also auto-saves, so if you're wandering around near death without any healing items left just because you want to scout the area a bit before you reload a save - guess what, don't open any doors, climb any ladders, or drop down any hatches.
I picked this up on the weekend due to a video review from a guy I trust and has steered me towards previous games I had never considered but ended up loving. I have already played a lot of it and I am very impressed so far. It's a little rough around the edges in some areas, but the fundamental gameplay and format are great. It's like a party-based, single player Monster Hunter with a western fantasy RPG aesthetic. Combat system is very solid and the world is Xenoblade-massive.
Kind of proud of my main pawn. When I logged in for a little questing this evening, she came back with over 37,000 in rift crystals and really nice ratings.
Magic Archer is crap. Their lock-on multi-targeting for some spells is cool but it is really awkward to isolate specific spots (like against a golem's weak points). Their damage is abysmal unless your enemy has an elemental weakness, but you can achieve even better results by having a mage/sorcerer cast an elemental weapon spell on your ranger/strider/assassin's bow. This vocation is seriously underpowered and I might end up switching away from it as soon as I finish maxing its vocation level.
