I WANNA MAKE AN MMORPG

I'm interested in making an mmorpg, whether it's under the the wing of someone currently making one or what not. I have no clue how to model or anything of the sort. I am great at writing story scripts though. Thing is, I have a ton of free time and i'd rather use it helping someone or putting together something fun. Does anyone use unity3d or any other software such as that? Can RMN be used to make an mmorpg?
There's a few games on RMN that use the Unity3D engine. Look at these games for a bit of reference.
Anyway, I might be interested in being in a team effort, most probably within the context of an event, but not if the goal of said effort is making an mmorpg.

start by trying your hand at making a 30 hour RPG, and realizing the scope and effort it takes. Then multiply that by 100 and you'll get a sense of what an MMORPG undertaking will be like.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

author=kentonaFor me it's closer to ten or fifteen times that much. But if you're using 100% pre-made graphics sets and the default battle system, triple that much is probably about right.author=MrChearlieTriple that, at least.
one hour of rpg takes like.... 24 hours of work?
If you are interested in making an MMORPG, I would recommend making a MUD. It plays just like an MMORPG but is entirely text-based. Much easier to handle due to the lack of graphics and sound. Sounds kind of lame, but you can make it just as fun as any graphical MMO, and blind people can play it which is cool. There are development kits that can get you started, that have a lot of built-in stuff that you can use (or replace), sort of like RPG Maker. Diku is the simplest and easiest to use.

Well, then you gotta tack on near constant updates after the initial release (or even Alpha/Beta releases) to fix bugs (even trying to find that crap will take a while)
And then expansion packs here and there
I was thinking RMN was short for rpg maker in some form. I'm not really interested in how long it takes, time isn't an issue for me. It's something i've wanted to attempt. I downloaded unity3d and UDK but haven't really been able to fully understand either of them, especially UDK. Which is why I want to learn the basics through an newbie friendly software. I would really enjoy some people that are well capable in multiple fields of this to pass on knowledge and help out. My main issue isn't that I can't do things, I just need to know what does what.
This may be a good opportunity for you : http://www.gmaker.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=161

If they're blind how can they read the text? haha (this quote seriously cracked me up :P)

Screen readers. Blind people use screen readers to use computers. You know, software that reads text out loud to you? Screen readers work pretty well with MUDs; we have a decent number of blind players, actually.
You can't really use a screen reader with any type of game except a text adventure or a MUD, so it lets people play video games that otherwise never could.

Seriously, this is like you want to build a car on your own but don't know how a car engine works.
I'm using Unity3D for almost 2 years now and still scratching on the surface of possibilities. Yes, theoretically it can be used for making an MMORPG, to be precise for creating the world. You will need a server / client system as well. And if we're talking about a real M(assive)M(Multiplayer)ORPG, in which thousands of people are playing, then you will need to buy a server and it will cause a lot of traffic. You should be aware of that. Setting up a MMORPG is not only very time consuming, it will even cost you a lot of money to keep the server running for the people to play.
I know, it's often like that "Oh, a 3D software, now I'm gonna make a MMO", but believe me, you will discard that sooner or later.
If you don't even know the basics you should start with simple projects. This will be less frustrating.

Well, I can tell you that nothing is easy, lest a MMORPG. Good luck in whatever you're doing. Even if you say you can do things, you're gonna have to be prepared to take in loads of information, which, by then, I think you'll go crazy. It's always good to start small before venturing to something big.
Also, I think you'll probably want to go to another forum that specializes in Unity3D. RMN is a website that specializes mostly in RPG Maker 2000/2003/XP/VX, so it's going to be difficult to find help in regards to Unity3D here.

The number one way of finding out what does what is discovering for yourself! Sure, you'll make thousands of mistakes in the process, but you will be learning!
