~ CLOSAT ~
O is for Object

What is this?
This is the third of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the third, and all are aimed at creation.

This third episode will focus on object creation.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~

Fine, then what do we have to do?
Firstly, decide whether or not you are going to stick around for all seven parts. I'm aiming to have them done within a few weeks time, and some parts are longer than others.

Secondly, each topic will ask you to create something. This something will be used by others so don't throw out anything that you'd rather not be shared.

Lastly, create.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating an object. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with creating one. Just one. You'll do this like so:

- Grab a random book, open it to a random page and the fiftieth word on that page has to be included in the name of the object. If that word is an object, then either use it or skip down another few lines. If the word is 'the, an, a, and, then, than... ect' then skip down another few lines.
- Give a description of this item up to 50 words.
- Add a timeline of the item - from it's creation to current day. Who's hands has it been in? Where was it last kept? A loose timeline is fine.
- Post them in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my example in the location section.
You have a week for this, so around the 5th of June.

Objects can be anything - something of complete fiction or not.

Once your object and timeline is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

Dagger of Pain
A sacrificial artefact from the bleak era of iron. When it carved out the hearts of young virgins left as offerings for the dragon at Mount Refial. The dagger is simple in design, as it was meant for a singular purpose. It has one bladed side, one blunt side. It curves back a good deal, and the blade is rather fat. The hand guard is short, and merely enough to help the hand from slipping in all the blood. The hilt is leather-bound and short. There is a large ruby embedded in the bottom of the hilt.

Point of Creation - Forged in the smithery of Trestan, far south of Mount Refial.
1 month - sent to the Monastery at Mount Refial by way of squire.
3 years - the dragon of Mount Refial destroyed the Monastery when there were no more virgins to eat. (The dragon ritual had prompted a rash wave of pre-teen sex in the villages) and the dagger fell down the mountain.
20 years - during a war between kingdoms, the Traffians made camp south of the Monastery, where one wandering sentry stumbled on the dagger. He kept it to himself.
1 year - during the battle of Kortras, the sentry who found it died in combat.
1 week - while clearing out the corpses and gathering any useful supplies off them, the coroner found the dagger on the sentry, and tucked it away with all the other precious things he had found.
2 years - the dagger had found a home on the coroner's wall after retirement.
3 years - the coroners wife used the dagger on her husband after finding out about a scandal.
4 hours - the priest who regularly visited the coroner for council, found the murder and had the woman hanged immediately. The dagger was taken into the church's treasury.
9 centuries - a treasure hunter stumbles on the lost city of Kortras, and loots the church's treasury. The dagger he keeps for himself.
10 generations - Jamal Torrence uses it as a letter opener at home.

Fancy Foofoo(tm) Your fantastic friend(tm)
The Fancy Foofoo series of soft toys were produced in limited numbers by the Plushco Toy company in the mid 80's. Part of a series of soft toy dogs, Fancy Foofoo was a pink French poodle, complete with a cute little beret and stripy jersey. Picture of the Oracle's Temple
A painting of the Temple of Delphi. Nobody knows who painted it, but the style of painting suggests that it was made during the Renaissance. As such, it was probably originally painted for a member of the upper class, but, as the story goes, the family came on hard times, and was forced to sell the painting. The painting has changed hands over the many years of it's existence, but it recently was donated to a museum, where it is now on display.

It's worth changes according to who one talks to. Collectors of obscure paintings would say that "Picture of the Oracle's Temple" is absolutely priceless because nobody knows who painted it. The museum, being of a more reasonable mind, gave the painting the benefit of it's age and supposed history, and offered a tidy sum to acquire the painting.

Almincing Jalor
A constantly oscillating orb shaped crystal that's the stuff of legends.
No, not legendary POWERS per say, but was used in many daring missions to retake what has been lost. Its particular power is unknown but is suspected to give the user utter control while damaging them greatly if they abuse its power.

TIMELINE:
126 years ago: A housewife by the name of Darine Loravea uses its stave off the Kilani Clan. She is praised as a hero.
119 years ago: Darine sells the orb to a needy urchin that was around 12 years old.
110 years ago: The urchin, Gorale, kills Darine with the orb and assumes control of the Jurile Empire.
118 years ago: Gorale dies of unknown causes and passes the orb onto his son .
98 years ago: Gorale's descendant rids the world of the Jurile Empire and appoints a new king to a new kingdom. He moderates the world for years with the orb.
70 years ago: Gorale's descendant dies and Lina, the princess of Icelane uses the orb to save her bride to be form death. They get married soon after.
69 years ago: Lina's husband murders her for the orb. Captivated by its beauty, he forgets who he is and inflicts mass destruction on a nearby town. He says he's "cleansing" the world. The world comes to know him as Gavire the Terrible.
68 years ago: A saviour, Omni, steals the orb on accident. When he realises what he has he destroys Gavire and saves the world he knew. Omni acts an activist for peace for many years.
30 years ago: Omni gives his orb away to his niece, Lani, the reincarnation of Lina. Her soul is still spiteful of her fate. She nearly kills Omni then stops herself. She rights herself then marches out side of the tent she and Omni had occupied.
15 years ago: Lani destroys the planet. But, this isn't a bad thing. She brings back the planet's purity and fixes the "foul creatures" of the world. Perhaps this was what the orb was meant for.
10 years ago: The first person to be revived by the orb is in the newspaper all around the world. People see reason to doubt why it should even exist while others argue it is vital to the world's survival. Lani sets them straight, straight in the ground that is. This is HER world.
3 years ago: Lani instills the orb to the world. It causes the world to obtain everlasting purity. Lani's soul rests in peace.
Yesterday: The Thief Society of Today steals the orb to prevent people such as Lani or Gavire to ever gain control again. They were aliens that were directly responsible for the orb being there in the first place.

Sea Scroll
A long, ancient scroll that charts the seas of the world. Surprisingly accurate for such a dated artefact. It precisely marks the coastlines and islands as well as any modern map, however it also charts a rather large, non-existent island located in the middle of the ocean. It's embellished by detailed sketches of various sea monsters as well as a compass.

Timeline
75 Years Ago : This scroll was found in the ruins of an ancient city located near the coast.
74 Years Ago : After sitting in a lab for a year, scholars were finally allowed to study this scroll more closely. But they had to wear gloves.
70 Years Ago : A gruelling study revealed that this document is around 600 years old due to the archaic formations of it's letters.
60 Years Ago : Scholars finally consented to allow the scroll to be put on display in an Archaeological Museum.
43 Years Ago : In an endeavour to combat bankruptcy the Museum auctioned off the piece to a wealthy collector for $70,000.
11 Years Ago : The wealthy collector has passed away, leaving his inheritance (and the scroll) to his daughter, Carly.
7 Years Ago : Carly gives the scroll away to a handsome young archaeologist, Tennessee, in an effort to attract his attention.
5 Years Ago : Tennessee and his new wife Carly hire a group of sailors to take them to the location of the non-existent island.
4 Years Ago : After a failed expedition, the scroll has been returned to a lab for further studying.
Now : Used as a coaster on an inexperienced interns desk to combat coffee-mug rings.

Binky's Drawings
A bunch of scrunched up pictures drawn by a child named Binky. Binky's Drawings consist of 2 pictures drawn on restaurant napkins. The drawing utensil of choice was a "Purple Mountain's Majesty" Crayola crayon.

1994 (1 hour later) - Binky stupidly loses his drawings somewhere.
Now - Binky finally finds his drawings.

Abdominal Brace

1998 - Brace was given to Laura Brackson, Abe's mother.
1999 - Brace was lost in a yard sale, bought by a man name Lewie Kellsin

2007 - Abe wins the debate, receiving the Abdominal Brace and 1.5 million dollars.
2008 - Abe dies, and he hands it over to his daughter, Teressa Brackson.

The Orb of Souls
A powerful artefact capable of separating a being's soul from its body and trapping it indefinitely, or until the user chooses to reunite them. Its history is oft-questioned, but there have been enough records of its use to more-or-less confirm its existence.

Timeline
1000 years ago - Alleged creation of the Orb. Serpentalis believes it to be a manifestation of the Eye of the Creator, and subsequently they think there is a twin to it that has the power to permanently fuse a soul to a shell (effectively making the user immortal). Zodiac, on the other hand, believes it to be a pearl gifted to Virgo from Cancer that fell to the land plane of Gidaria. Why Cancer did not retrieve it at the time is a question the High Prelates have never deigned to answer.
980 years ago - First semi-believable recording of the Orb's use in combat. Yorlach the Bloody brought a swift end to the War of the Five Tragedies (and caused the fifth tragedy that gave the war its eventual name) by tearing out the soul of the enemy commander in front of his troops. This brutal act caused the unconditional surrender of the surviving forces, but they were all slaughtered regardless.
520 years ago - The whereabouts of the Orb in the intervening 460 years is unknown to all and speculated by few, but an archaic journal discovered in some ruins near Carafax reveals that at this time the Orb came into the possession of Jik, an imp of small intelligence and smaller temper. The journal, that of one Burkin--a talent-less wandering spellcrafter--says that he was fortunate enough to fish up the Orb one day, at the time having no idea as to its purpose or power. He lost it to Jik in a game of chance, much to his chagrin. The few pages after this entry detail a horrific bloodbath when Jik went on a rampage and nearly shattered the orb by trying to pull out more souls than it could hold. The crack it sustained diminished its power; it could now only remove emotions from the target rather than their entire soul.
300 years ago - After another 220 years a military report stated outright that the Orb was responsible for a spate of "deaths" which were plaguing Darkriver. It was initially a mystery as the victims were still breathing, but possessed no emotions. Burkin's journal was submitted as evidence to support the claim. A hunt began to find and destroy the Orb before it could be used for further harm.
250 years ago - It took 50 years, but finally the Orb was found in the possession of Cafrim, who was at the time Arch-Chancellor of Carafax's Spellcrafting Academy. The first known person who kept the Orb as a collector's item rather than doing harm with it. Despite his benevolent use of the artefact, it was wrested from his grasp and destroyed in a public ceremony.
100 years ago - Strange reports began to surface about Cafrim's extraordinary longevity. Although his records were highly confidential, it was getting more difficult to hide the fact that he was more than a century old. When confronted, it finally came to light that Serpentalis had been correct in their belief; the Orb had a twin which Cafrim had used to become immortal. It was deemed a heretical object and ordered destroyed, but no one could locate it and Cafrim would not divulge its location. As he could not be killed, the death penalty could not be enforced. Cafrim was instead sentenced to eternal imprisonment in the Black Cells, a dread prison from which no one had ever emerged alive.
20 years ago - Now nearing his two-hundredth century of life, Cafrim shocked the world by writing a biography of his exploits during the years before his incarceration. This drew the attention of several scholars, who visited his cell in droves to interview him about the revelations he had penned. One such visitor, Madriol Garamon, became a renowned spellcrafter of unparalleled power after speaking with Cafrim. Rumour abounds that he was chosen to be the successor of the Immortality Orb as Cafrim no longer wanted to be bound to his weak, frail mortal shell.
Present day - The rumours of Cafrim grooming Madriol as his successor seem to hold water; Cafrim died three days ago, and no one alive believes he would end his immortality without passing on the secret of the Orb's location. Gidaria's child emperor, at the behest of his cabinet of advisors, wishes to interrogate Madriol, but this is made difficult by the fact that Madriol's reputation and philanthropic gestures had previously afforded him a declaration of diplomatic immunity in such matters.

Detachable Doorknob of Magicians
A doorknob which, as the name suggests, can be detached and reattached to a door (knobless or otherwise) at any time and be used to open any door under most circumstances. Makes a satisfying click when detached. No one knows why, but it mysteriously fails to work on wooden doors.

Timeline:
1878 - A patent for the doorknob is filed. This particular doorknob in question is the winning prototype which was never thrown out. It did, however, sit in the dusty cupboard of its inventor for the next 23 years during the mass production of countless other doorknobs of its kind.
1901 - The doorknob's inventor mysteriously disappears. Several days after his disappearance, the police raid the house and the doorknob prototype becomes evidence. It continues to sit in its dusty surroundings for a further 10 years, locked away in a police evidence unit. The inventor was never found again.
1911 - In a clear out of unused evidence, one young police woman (Ms. Glenna Hoover) takes the doorknob for use in her home after a break-in left one of her own doorknobs in a state of disrepair. The doorknob sits happily on her living room door.
1914 - Ms. Glenna Hoover is victim to another break-in. Nothing is stolen except for the old doorknob. The thief is the original inventor who sells the doorknob to a museum in London, where it sits around and gets ogled for a long 76 years.
1990 - In a clear out at the museum to make way for newly acquired antiques, the doorknob is sold on to Desmond Pete Wilkins. He discovers its abilities and promptly gives it its name: 'The Detachable Doorknob of Magicians'. He proudly shows it off in a display case at his fancy parties which he has over the space of 10 years and writes several journal entries on its powers and his experiences.
2000 - After a particular failure of a millennium party, Wilkins falls victim to many a 'knob' gag from guests due to his obsession with the door trinket. Not one to ignore such attacks close to his heart, he takes care of his aggressors with bullets. The bloodied doorknob is returned to police custody alongside the revolver used for the murders and, naturally, Mr. Wilkins who is locked away for a forgiving 12 years on an insanity plea.
2011 - The doorknob is sold off in a police auction alongside other useless goods to justice-mad Bessie Hoover. She discovers the item's potential after getting home and immediately playing around with it. She presses it to her front door and it attaches itself, letting her into her house. She detaches it and immediately vows to use it only for justice, keeping it on her person at all times.

Sorry I've not been online much (and won't until about next week) as my internet has been cut. Don't worry, we'll get this done eventually. :D

Description: A constantly oscilating orb shaped crystal that's the stuff of legends.

69 years ago: Lina's husband murders her for the orb. Captivated by its beauty, he forgets who he is and inflicts mass destruction on a nearby town. He says he's "cleansing" the world. The world comes to know him as Gavire the Terrible.
68 years ago: A savior, Omni, steals the orb on accident. When he realizes what he has he destroys Gavire and saves the world he knew.
They were aliens that were directly responisble for the orb being there in the first place.

Sea Scroll
A long, ancient scroll that charts the seas of the world. Surprisingly accurate for such a dated artifact. It precisely marks the coastlines and islands as well as any modern map, however it also charts a rather large, nonexistant island located in the middle of the ocean.

70 Years Ago : A grueling study revealed that this document is around 600 years old due to the archaic formations of it's letters.
60 Years Ago : Scholars finally consented to allow the scroll to be put on display in an Archeological Museum.
43 Years Ago : In an endeavor to combat bankruptcy the Museum auctioned off the piece to a wealthy collector for $70,000.
11 Years Ago : The wealthy collector has passed away, leaving his inheritance (and the scroll) to his daughter, Carly.
7 Years Ago : Carly gives the scroll away to a handsome young archaeologist, Tennessee, in an effort to attract his attention.
5 Years Ago : Tennessee and his new wife Carly hire a group of sailors to take them to the location of the nonexistent island.
4 Years Ago : After a failed expedition, the scroll has been returned to a lab for further studying.
Now : Used as a coaster on an inexperienced intern's desk to combat coffee-mug rings.

Alright, I state it once in each topic - as long as you go back and complete the rest of the topics as well, you can still join. Just keep in mind that there's four or five steps to go and that you HAVE to be part of all of them, so please, if you don't think you can do that...

The Orb of Souls
A powerful artifact capable of separating a being's soul from its body and trapping it indefinitely, or until the user chooses to reunite them.

520 years ago - The whereabouts of the Orb in the intravening 460 years is unknown to all and speculated by few, but an archaic journal discovered in some ruins near Carafax reveals that at this time the Orb came into the possession of Jik, an imp of small intelligence and smaller temper. The journal, that of one Burkin--a talentless wandering spellcrafter--says that he was fortunate enough to fish up the Orb one day, at the time having no idea as to its purpose or power.
Despite his benevolent use of the artifact, it was wrested from his grasp and destroyed in a public ceremony.

*looks at bookshelf* Hmm.. if I choose a random book, I will likely end up with a cookbook, foreign dictionary or school textbook which would be difficult to get the fiftieth word from due to the page setup. I'll pick a book I've actually read too, considering I.. haven't read very many.. ;_;

Word to use: 'Magicians' from '500 Manga Heroes and Villains', page 34

1911 - In a clearout of unused evidence, one young police woman (Ms.
1990 - In a clearout at the museum to make way for newly acquired antiques, the doorknob is sold on to Desmond Pete Wilkins.

This is VERY unlikely and quite sad(it's a fake item, and I'm doing this, what did you expect? A lovely timeline about roses made of dog food that ended up in the dog?)

Word used: "Close" from the Sonic Generations 3DS article in November 2011 Nintendo Power

Book of the Close

A book of magic, made by a witch, made specifically for closing things. This may seem pointless at first, but when you realize it can close a relationship, a dimension, a portal, and many other things literal and mental, you would wish you had it!

Point of Creation - Created by a evil Witch.
10 years - Stolen by a black mage, wanting to destroy the world!
9 years 11 months - taken back by a white mage, and given to the corpse of the evil witch.
8 years - taken from her dead body by a satanists thief.
7 years - given to an insane lunatic who tried making the book burn. The lunatic was ashes by the time the book was doused.
6 years 10 months - found in the Asylum near a puddle of water by a sheriff looking for some info about the burned body.
4 years - After 2 years of investigating, they concluded finally that the book had done it, and threw it in the water, where the currents pushed it around.
2 years - Washed up on the west shore of Japan.
1 year 11 months 3 weeks - Found by a child who threw it in a nearby river.
6 months - Wound up in a lake where a blind man picked it up and threw it to his dog accidently a few minutes later. In about a week the dog died of paper poisoning.

Smelly Mixture

A sticky, stinky blob of green goo made long ago in a now abandoned laboratory. It sits atop a table among many scientific instruments and papers. Its amorphous shape gives it the appearance of a gelatin of some sort. The green glow from the slime tells a different story, though...

Timeline:
March 2021: The mixture is accidentally created by scientists, and labeled a "failure". They were trying to create something completely different.
May 2022: Strange properties are discovered from the mixture. Experimentation on it commences.
August 2022: A scientist falls ill and dies. Assuming the illness came from the mixture, the scientists quickly evacuate the facility. They left behind their research notes, their instruments, and the mixture.
July 2036: Present day.
