Well, I wasn't sure, but I decided this probably belonged here.

So, I'm writing a beginners guide for RPG making. I have already put together a lot of stuff, but I need suggestions. What do you think should be covered in the guide? Any tips that you would tell a beginner? Anyways, anything you can think of, please post it below so I can include it.
Explain what Variables are. (i dont know :P)

and creating your own characters (maybe, it was easy for me to discover)
Ya, I was thinking of such. I will probably include a nice big section on switches and variables. Also, is there a limit on article sizes?
A general tip, include pictures. This will set your guides apart, and make it so much easier.
I think it is limited... due to the facts of Kentona's FUNdamental guides... i think their was 5 versions... so yes i think their is a limit...

Yes, this is a good idea. By using pictures it can make for easier reading and easier to understand. If you can, add labels inside the pictures as well.
I can see the beginning of the article.

A beginner's guide to making RPGs (using RPG Maker)So you're thinking about making an RPG? Don't do it. The amount of work required to make a full-fledged RPG is enough to make even the most enthusiastic hobbyist a nervous wreck of everlasting procrastination.

Do you still want to make an RPG? I still say you shouldn't do it.

If you still want to make an RPG then by all means go ahead. But when, in three years time, you still haven't released anything but is in endless development mode with nothing but nasty remarks from people who have seen your crappy screenshots. Remember that you had plenty of chance to back out.

I guess by here you could just stop the article. Or, if you really want to destroy other people's lives, continue and let the poor beginners know the basics....
Come on people, 2 actual ideas so far...

I really want peoples opinions on this.
I think that you are being overly ambitious. Try focusing on writing one article on a single topic (ie- switches), get that done and submit it, and then reaccess what you want to cover next in your series of articles for your Beginner's Guide.

Make a list of things you might like to cover. Pick one. Write an article on it. Post it. Pick another. Repeat.

The rule of thumb is to split up the project until you are left with small, manageable chunks.
I agree with kentona

This way you can write a more detailed guide, with more info in it on a specific topic and if you don't feel like making more you can stop.
True... but it would be much less epic. Perhaps I will do it this way, then make a forum topic as it's index (since most people don't even click that articles button)
hmm, do you mean like a tutorial forum? that would be a great idea. Their would maybe be less people posting things in the help section. (Like me) :P

Try implementing tricks you use in Rpgmaker as well, put your own little techniques and experiences with the program into your guide, maybe add tips on how to stay on track with their games, not give up so easily and to stick with their projects.

That's all I got.
EXAMPLES.

Include a small project with the tutorial that has a few examples people can look at and play with. You can even reference your example in the tutorial (with screenshots for awesomeness)
