CloseI am taking a 3d animation course at school. The school owns a liscense for their 3ds max and it is distributed throughout the network. HOWEVER, our teacher wanted students to be able to work at home, and has been handing out cracked versions of the program with a keygen. That should still be VERY illegal, should it not?

idk.... I actually had to use a keygen to use Unreal in a simulation for the robotics team, then gave it up when we finished. I think it should be illegal, but I don't know after that.

However, this isn't a sane world, and yes, it's probably illegal because various lobbies have made sure that Fair Use doesn't really exist in the year 2008. But I doubt anyone's going to jail or getting sued over it.

There's no argument of fair use here. This is very illegal and will cost the school lots of money if they are busted.

Yes, it's illegal. To those who said it falls under fair use, I don't think you have a very good understanding of it.

This is definitely illegal. It's just like buying a dvd and then burning it for your friends. Even though you have it it is still illegal.

Silly questions aside, people do this kind of stuff all the time. My old boss was running a "professional" business and absolutely none of the Adobe suite software was legit. It probably still isn't either.
ps I am pretty surprised all it takes is a simple keygen to get 3dsmax working, Maya for instance is a whole lot more complicated than that...
