HAS ANYONE EVER DONE A GRANDIA-STYLE BATTLE SYSTEM IN RM?

Any version of RM.

I only just started playing the first Grandia a little while ago. Never played it nor its sequels back in the day. I've been enjoying it, and the battle system is one feature in particular that I find impressive. It's simple, yet still holds up well against battle systems in RPGs nowadays.

So yeah, has anyone ever done it in RM? Is it even possible? I'd think it would be... A reasonable facsimile, at least.
Not to my knowledge, but I suppose that with my level in eventcoding in 2k3 I could do one fairly easily (in a custom battle system).

Grandia (PSX first title)'s battle system is actually not much different than a regular ATB that includes "casting time", a feature that appeared in FF4 for instance.

The gauge is divided into 2 sections: a big one to the left of the "Command spot" that acts as a regular ATB, and a smaller one to the right of the Command spot that represents "casting time".
To make a custom ATB, you could for instance have each character's gauge fill up by an amount equal to their current speed/agility each "turn" until one of them reaches a peak of X amount (this amount can be equal to the maximum speed +1, for instance 1000 if the max speed is 999).
Then have the character input his Commands, set a casting time, wait and execute.

Then you'd also have to make a battlefield where characters automatically move towards their target in order to attack. That might be more difficult to code because you'd have to make sure characters will move around the others in order to avoid getting stuck, and always use the shortest path to the target.
I think the party and enemy combined visual representation of the ATB gauge was the standout feature of the first Grandia, not particularly the underlying mechanics.

Lol I've been subscribed to Osheru Shori for a year and never noticed the CBS.
Too bad there's no download.
I guess the ability to cancel your enemy's attack if you time a critical attack right is what I find most interesting about it.
Battle engine melody's ATB :)
