PROJECT VIRAL 1.6

Hello fellow members of the RPG Maker Development Community. My name is Femi and some of you know me as the developer of Project Viral my only completed game. Some of you are developers, artists as such and some of you like to play amateur games on these sites and also review them. I'm glad to be part of this community and the fact that my works have received structured criticism and feedback brings me joy. I just wanted to say that I am revamping Project Viral which I know a few of you have possibly played. I'm going to add some new features and changes to the game for the better possibly doing some revamping as well depending on what I can do.

-I was thinking about voice actors?
-What do people think about taking part in voice acting for the game?
-If anyone would like to participate, the Final Release of Project Viral which will be 1.6 will have you in the credits as contributors to it's cause. If you feel like taking part then please contact me here or on www.rpgrevolution.com

There's also more improvements/changes I'm thinking of adding to the game. PM me if you would like to be part of the next and final release. Also post a message on this thread stating whether your male or female or your voice adepts. That way I can contact you as well and we can come to a consensus about your role in the next and final full release of Project Viral.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated. :)

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Professional voice acting is usually worse than text boxes. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the calibur of amateur voice acting you will get from RMN is almost certainly going to be unbelievably shitty to the point of making the game unplayable.

If the only voice acting you do is for battle sound effects, and not for dialogue, it might be remotely tolerable. But I still strongly recommend not doing it.

Thanks man i was actually thinking of doing that but after you said that maybe not haha ^_^
Voice acting is possible with rmxp. Take a look at the videos below, I thought it was relatively pulled off well on both of them.

Especially considering the fact my game is a horror game, I'm not going to need voice actors with over emphasized emotions. Just emotions of shock, despair and fear which after some practice I'm sure the voice acting team will find it easy to get used to.

I've just decided that I'm going to create a way of choosing whether you want voice acting activated or not at the start of the game too, that should sort the problem out for people who want it in and people who don't...

The voicing in both of those is so bad. It's, like, three times worse than the original DBZ dub, which up until this very moment has been my baseline for "worst voice acting in the history of existance," but has just been very unfortunately surmounted.

I would give anything to unhear those videos.
Amateur voice acting is probably best for comedic games where it can be bad but be so bad it's good. Or if it's average it's still bad but because it's bad and not bad.

I think especially shorter games should happily indulge in some voice acting if they can get guys to do it. Even if it's an on/off toggle in a menu somewhere. Because it can be so much fun!

With voice acting you can pause and do stuff that is hard to do in "just" a text box too and I think stuff like that can be valuable. Of course it might be valuable in the way that it might be a good idea to read your script out loud and if it sounds as moronic as it probably does change it around so it doesn't sound moronic when read out loud!
I enjoyed the DBZ dub. Thought it wasn't as pulled of well as in with other animes such as rourouni kenshin but it was good enough for me. At some scenes I thought the dub was better than the japanese too be honest. I think it's more personal opinion. A while back a few people seemed interested in this game having voice acting implemented which I stated would probably be for a future release.

Shinnan's right, it will be fun and even if it makes the game suck for some, players will have the option to decide whether they want it in game. Project Viral is a short game as well, although the game will be extended to 2 hours for the last release.
"It's Antignirot!"

Ah, I loved that game. The creator did this thing where he had some VA in it, but only certain lines that were said a few times in the whole game - like the main characters'/baddies' catchphrases. Of course, it was mainly used for comedic effect since it was mainly a comedy game. Uh, Jay's Journey in case anyone was interested.

That said, there are some amateur projects where the voice acting is pretty decent - both the new version of Love and War and a certain version of a Princessy game spring to mind. And I'm not just saying that because I've worked on both, either. XP

But most of the time amateur VA comes off as very cheesy and, well, amateur; though it you do want to add voice acting, there are sites out there with aspiring voice actors who are always happy to help out in projects. They know that getting their voices out there - so to speak (no puns intended) - is important for them.

One thing that really works well when it comes to VA is small character noises in battle - "Hah!", "Urgh!", "Iyah!", "No!", "Ow!" - that kinda thing. It can add character to your, well, characters and make them a bit more personable; though for heaven's sake, don't do the squeaky little kid screaming, ear-blow voices. They get so annoying it's not funny. >.<
Wow, care to point me into the direction of any sites you know that will be good for this.
Try this one. I know for a fact they do voicing for fandubs of anime so games shouldn't be too far out of their league.

You make a thread with the characters you want to fill with a few lines for testing and they sign up for each character they want to try and send you lines.

This is bad, here's the enemy!
Air slash!
Teaaaar into pieces!
Teaaaar into pieces!
Teaaaar into pieces!
Teaaaar into pieces!
Teaaaar into pieces!
Teaaaar into pieces!
That's somewhere around eighty points!

One of my future projects depends on/requires voice acting, so I might be interested in contributing, if only to give me some extra practice at it. I have a condenser mic and a digital multi-tracker, as well as goldwave and an older, but full featured, build of Acid.

Although, I'd probably sound pretty damn ridiculous trying to play an anime-ish 16 year old.
I also did a game that is all just voice acting, if you want to check that out. Of course, it's not awesome or anything - it was made over a weekend - so the quality...
But at least I can say I did it! XD

@LockeZ: Man, you gotta admit, it was still a great game. I mean, parts were cheesy and the ones since then have strayed into squeal-fest territory, but damn, it was fun!
I will check them out, post the link to your game if that's not the link on your previous post which I'm checking out now. And Killer Wolf please feel free to contribute if you want. You don't have to take a major role but minor one if you want.

I am really emphatically not a professional voice actor, but I've always had an unhealthy fascination with acting, so I will contribute my voice to your game if for some ungodlyknown reason you want it. Liberty's suggestion will almost certainly work out better for you.

By the way the name of this topic should be changed, game topics in the forums are not allowed here. This should also probably be moved to Help & Requests, but I am not a mod.

Making a thread advertising your game is not allowed. Making a thread asking for game design and theory advice about your game is definitely allowed, though.
Yeah, this shoulda been a blog.
