WII FIT
Posts
Well, this just came out the other day here and i was playing it with a group of friends. I actually thought this was going to be pretty bad but it is actually quite good. You can do just about anything on it such as Yoga poses, muscle workout, aerobic exercise, balancing games plus more. The sales that this game made are pretty huge as well. Completely sold out here in the first day so it was lucky that my friends preordered a copy of it. Anyway, has anyone else played this or what are your general thoughts etc? For more info, heres a website.

I'm the type of person who loves exercise in its raw form. Not everyone is like that, however, and making exercise into a game is only a good thing.
author=WIP link=topic=1159.msg17192#msg17192 date=1211299246This, I don't have a Wii though sadly, really want one to, I hate when people say it's not really a gaming console and just a toy, the Wii is like the ultimate gaming console because when your playing something like Wii Sports it's just so much fun, which is what games need to be.. FUN!!

I actually disagree very strongly with this statement. It's like saying that every book you read has to be a page-turner or that every movie you see has to be funny and exciting. I don't think that many mature people believe either of those things, and I think that we should start applying the same metric to video games.
Fun is a highly relative term. I find exercise fun.
As for video games, I think saying "games should be fun" isn't as correct as it should be. Games should be WORTHWHILE. What you gain from the game is up to you.

Thank God something like this came about. Honestly there are too many fatties all around nowadays, with a majority of them glued to a video game console. I'm really glad something like this is really selling well to get people active.
So, like, how does it work? If it's anything like WII SPORTS FITNESS then asnavnsnvanscvldsofghfhddcudghuiguiheuugiheiguh
I mean, I play Wii Boxing a few times a week but I add in my own kickboxing so that it's actual exercise and stuff. I also am too used to real sparring so the controls really don't cut it....
The cover of Wii Fit has some sort of pad on it, it seems. How does it work otherwise? Is it Pilates with poorly animated Miis (ksanvadnvl I HATE the graphics and sound for Wii Play/Wii Sports/Miis in general)? MORE INFO PLZ
EDIT: Also what makes this better than going for a walk or dancing?
EDITEDIT: Mog, if they are already glued-to-the-TV then why are they buying this game and why do they have a Wii instead of an XBOX 360.

There's an upper weight limit on the Wii Board - Nintendo has announced that the little white thing you stand on has a maximum weight lof 300lbs.
The game refuses to run if it over that weight.
So it's not so much for fatties as it is for plumpers.
(Craze, it's a board with sensors that measure balance and pressure. There are a bunch of lame excercises like yoga and pushups plus games like soccer goalie to play)
The snowboarding minigame is the only one that looks remotely interesting.

What does that have to do with being a fatty?
author=WIP link=topic=1159.msg17198#msg17198 date=1211305877Exercise is fun! I never said games should be fun, I said they need to be fun, I like to enjoy a game as well as get drawn into it, sometimes just the other like with Indigo Prophecy(Awesome game btw, not everyones cup of tea though)for example. I would not play a game with an incredible story or characters if the gameplay was boring or bland, but I would play a game with great gameplay and average story, kinda like Gears of War.

Yeah, the games you can play on the wii fit are pretty fun and are guaranteed to give you a really good exercise.

Of course it's the ultimate gaming console. Really, it's just fun to use the numchucks and such instead of using a shitty old controller.
I think theres a weight limit of 300 if i can remember correctly. But mainly it can be for everyone.
...huh. I guess there's a price to pay for being the big company of little toys!
MOG: Because, from my experience, there are two types of people playing HALO. There are the fit-because-they-play-manhunt-in-the-woods type and the fat-because-they-play-HALO-all-day-and-would-never-buy-a-Wii-or-Wii Fit.

I don't know more than 300 pounds is SUPER DUPER FAT. So maybe this game *is* designed for fatties, just not the ridiculously and morbidly obese.
I've played it and it's a fun time. It's not meant to be the primary source of exercise but a supplementary one. For that, it is fun. The mini games are fun. It's fun to do 15 minutes a day by yourself, but with friends for a bit at a wholesome party.
Games for fun works for me, I'll read the Russian greats or whatever if I want my mind to be blown. I hate it when games try to be deep. I've never seen one succeed. Well, maybe Lunar 1 and 2, but that was in a totally different way.

I think it's a great concept. Someday, video games will do everything for us. WiiSandwich.... why not?
I think using it as a primary source of exercise would be silly. As Canuck said, secondary or just to get you motivated.
Nothing beats real squats.
