CloseI've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm not sure if it's been done yet, or mentioned already, but while back, I reccall there being a Fan Game convention, and I was wondering what you guys thought about an RPG Maker convention.
It would been a week end event, where RPG Maker designers thoughout the country would meet, and show off thier latest creations, host RPG design workshops, etc.
What are you guys thoughts about somthing like this?

The RM scene isn't really big enough to have a convention since it's not as mainstream as other geekery such as anime cosplay and all that. Another problem is that when you go to something like that you only really go if you have someone to go with you and in my experience RPG making is a solitary pursuit. My friends appreciate my efforts but it's not like they're gonna take it up themselves

I wouldn't say game making is a solitary pursuit... I've managed to convince several people (online and otherwise) to at least attempt amateur game development, and I know several who would attend a convention. Of course, only if it weren't expensive... Which any long distance travel would be. The problem is the density of developers in any one region is too low; there might be enough people if you combine the German scene, the Italian scene, etc, but even in English there are people all over the world who comprise communities like this. Where would this even be held?

It would probably be better to arrange it less formal. Do it in a "meet" form and have a weekend wasting time talking about games and getting drunk. Perhaps having some kind of set programme too. (if you could invite some RM guy as a "Guest of Honor" who would give some kind of small talk and perhaps a panel discussion or two) But most of it would be focused on booze.
Then once the fifth RPGMaker-EveningMeetConvention (the REMCon) has been done and succesfully there might be time to expand it a bit. If that's what people would like.

I have a feeling that GamingWorld is our sworn enemy, hahaha, since a lotta people left there to come over here. But most of us I think are active members of both. If we were to have a meet, like GW has several times before I believe (but just a general meet, not RPG Maker related), we'd definitely have to make it RMN + GW + any other moderately large english RPG making community (anyone know if there are any other big ones out there?).
I wish the English community was as active and promising as the German, or other European ones :(
The prospect is exciting, I'd love to go to one of them, but like others said, the popularity isn't enough to make it happen. And I don't know if the trend is increasing or decreasing, but if the former, maybe in a few years it'll be possible.

For those of you not in the know, I've met a handful of people from this site in REAL PERSON OMG. The highly elitist pricks in #rm2k have gotten together twice before in the past. Not necessarily as a convention, but just to hang out and do whatever.
Both times we've done OneHour competitions. And trust me, it is even better when everyone is together.
As for this convention idea, there's not close to enough popularity to do such a thing. If you could get EVERY site together on it, you might be able to round up enough people to make it worth it. But even then, it would still be small.

this would be a pretty cool idea actually. Perhaps someday in the future something like this can happen.

I live in New Zealand so I'm pretty much left out haha. It would be funny as to have people with banners and stuff of their Rm2k/3 game.. :P

Well, the most realistic idea of this for me would be to go to germany or something
but then, conventions aren't my thing. Also, I don't hang out at any german communities, perhaps mostly because my german is too rusty.
