Darigaaz, I've got a story and a half!

I think it might have been my brother, coming back from a year of college, when I was introduced to RPG Maker 95? I know I played with it, but nothing serious ever really happened with it.

At some point, I got 2K. I might have downloaded a few games for it during the time I used it, but I don't recall their names. So, no, I've never heard of A Blurred Line, or Three the Hard Way, or really, anything you guys consider "classic", until I visited this site. As for myself, I managed to belch out a crap game with the engine, while my brother made one complete game (Legacy) and a demo (Summoner).

I didn't touch an RPG Maker engine again until XP. When I got to XP, I made four games in about two months. They were, in the order I made them in, Nakaishi Wars, Matsumori Days, House of Askikaga, and Legacy Reborn. Suffice it to say, they were all pretty crappy games.

Legacy Reborn was supposed to be a re-boot of a 2K game my brother made, Legacy. XP didn't quite have what I wanted. I wondered if there was an update, or something, and I came across VX. I gave it a try, and I liked what I saw. In fact, I remade all my XP projects in VX. Long story short, only two games from the "XP era" have survived: Legacy Reborn (Which has been cancelled, so can you really call it a survivor?), and Matsumori Days.

I don't know how many "new" projects I started in VX that never came to light. Final Fantasy Foolishness - Version Omega, Breath of Fire - Armageddon (These two games had exceptionally poor execution) and Oracle of Askikaga (Don't ask) come to the forefront of my mind.

How did I get started in RM?

I was in a video game store (like a locally owned one that carried games, figurines, etc.) and I saw RPG Maker for the PS1. I begged my mom to buy it and she did. Had a lot of fun and then realized there was RM2k/RM2k3 (can't remember which) on the computer and I was like "hey, that'll be easier to do the text in the game!" and thus got that. And then it's history from there (didn't get into RM communities until XP came out though).
My first experience with RPG Maker was also with the one on Playstation.
I was so confused back then that I wasn't able to do much with it though.

I only got into again later though when I found a message board that had a forum dedicated to RPG Maker and started using the 2k/2k3 versions. I only used them a little over the years though and never made any serious games.
I started because a guy on one of the games I played at the time knew I was interested in making games and he taught me the basics on RM2k english version.
Over time I moved to Rm2k3 and then VX and VX Ace.
my brother download RM2k when I was 7 so I started many projects that I never end, I gave up, I started with RM3k with the same results, I gave up, Again with RM3k, I gave up, years later (this year) I download RMVX Ace Trial and it tells me that can't be used with the tiny resolution of my netbook and that's all my story using RM engines.
I remember reading about RPG Maker in an issue of Nintendo Power ages and ages ago, in a spotlight on jRPGs that may never make it over to North America. This RPG Maker game sounded amazing.

Eventually, I discovered that there was a PC version and that's all she wrote. (Before that, my RPG making was limited to ideas written out on looseleaf paper in a binder, and a lot of drawings of worldmaps)
RPGMAKER 95...

( Trully Games with Goku jr And Vejita Jr... and that SFS)
I started to make my first game in RPG maker XP trial version, in 2006. That was some... guy wandering around in school, defeating ogres.. I was more than happy, when i just realized how to use a switch.
But then i moved on to RPG toolkit, then back to rpg maker xp. I learned a lot, to script, that was my goal.
And when i made a very good abs in rpg maker XP, i wasnt satisfied with its performance.

Then i switched to ika, and never looked back...

Thats all :D

I did search rpg maker on google out of boredom, back then I was writing stories, game walkthoughs of what ifs, just detailing everything I want to make in a game of ideas I had, obviously, they might of been cliche. That's how I got into all the rpg making stuff, though don miguel, as I mentioned before.

A friend gave me Rpg Maker 2000.. I then found Legion Saga not long after. This was like 11 years ago.

RE: the OP, I have told this story elsewhere recently, by the way. It's a long'n.
Well, I was sick of playing shooting games with a bunch of Cod noobs using overpowered weapons and not playing as a team. I hated how the developers don't playtest their games before releasing them. The games always turned out to be a mess and the noobs just don't make it any better. ;)

SOCOM 4 : Ruined by noobtubes
MW3 : Level design, gameplay mechanics were completely broken.
BF3 : Dumbass teammates from COD, snipers camping too hard or run around with SKS or M417. These 2 guns are like Shotgun + Assault Rifle.

So I began to make my own game and put all my effort into it. I started with Game Maker, but it was too hard so I switched to RPG Maker VX Ace. My project is going well so far, and I playtest it everyday to see if there 's any problem. If there is an issue, it would be due to my inexperience. :D
I used to write comics till I was about 15 and stopped getting into RPG Maker 2003 and obviously later afterwards XP. I also wrote short horror stories prior to the addiction. I've always had a passion for creativity and expressing it through visual means. I think this is what got me into RPG Maker in the first place because before I used to create my own animations as well which weren't that great. I think RPG Maker allowed me to combine all my creative skills into expressions through game development. I've been making games, small games, large games, side projects, test games, demo releases and have only ever completed one game since. It's an addiction and generally a large hobby of mine in my free time and when a flash of inspiration comes into mind it gets me working again.

I think games like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and yes even Pokemon were examples of games I thought were creative enough for me to want to make a game due to their atmospherics, stories and the way they visually explained what was happening within a fictional world. Rather than writing a story, RPG Maker to me is more fun and also involves playing and testing it. You get to engage the role, feel and mood of the character you fictionally created for your imaginary world due to the graphics you create, the music and the way you construct your scenes and game-play elements.
When I was about 17, I saw a guy on Youtube called W00tcake making Tales of a Twist, a comedy fangame of Tales of Symphonia, he’s still on Youtube as far as I know. I asked him all about it in my most incoherent and overly excited way, and as it turns out he was a really nice guy who took time out of his day to explain a lot about RM, how switches and variables worked, and the like (and I asked a fucking lot of dumb questions). So thanks to him I got into it, sure I always wanted to get into game design in some way, but never thought such a simple program would ever exist.

Also, here's a fun fact: When I was 13 I entered a monthly design a videogame contest for Games Master Magazine, and to my surprise I came first! I got a Castlevania game like two months before it was released in Europe, and a letter explaining why they choose me and what they liked about it (and a lot of those things still ring true with me now). They even sent everything I made back to me, and sometimes I read stuff back, as it is hilarious what my 13 year old self wrote.

So yeah if anyone has the February 2004 issue of Games Master, have a look because I'm in it! That was my first venture into game design.
A friend introduced me to Rm2k way back in '02 or so. I think the first RM game I played was Final Fantasy: Endless Nova, which I refuse to replay for the sake of my sweetened memories. My first projects were overly ambitious FF rip-offs I could never even hope to finish.
My friend had rpg maker 2003 and he told me of the program and I downloaded it for the lulz.

Remember when I actually used to make games? Me neither.

Eh, I first started by fooling around with Game Maker. That became nothing, so I found another program called RPG Maker that lets you make Final Fantasy style games. "Yeah, that sounds about right," I said.
Downloaded XP first, then RPG Maker 2000, then 2003, then redownloaded XP.
Still haven't finished a game.
