In VX, there are text commands like \| to delay text for a given time. I was wondering if there is there any way to do this in XP?
The same way, though it's not recommended to do it all the time. A lot of people can read fairly fast and waiting on text to finish is annoying.
To put it clearer - Most of the text commands are part of the programs from RM2K onwards, including 2k3, XP, VX and VXA.

Hi, is this included in the default text engine? I was under the impression that all of those special backslash commands had been removed, due to the instant rendition style of the text in XP.

That doesn't seem to work, Lib. If those commands were removed, I'll manage without, I just thought it'd look nicer if there were waiting sometimes.
I was always under the impression they had been removed, but you could get scripts to colour text, etc.

Colouring text is possible in default XP, but the delay commands don't show up on F1.
You're right, I vaguely remember being able to colour the text, but I definitely don't remember any of the speed/delay commands. The lack of text options was one of the reasons I stopped using XP, but I definitely remember there being scripts for it. I've tried Googling for them, but it's actually trickier than it sounds.. a lot of the old links for the script have died.
Well, actually, I know a few scripts you can use if you want. The problem is that they usually add a lot of extra stuff. The simplest one I know, if you want to try it, is this:

You can change text speed, add sound, wait for player input, show icons and autoclose the window (Some other stuff).

When I was on XP, I preferred AMS by Dubealex. It's wonderful script that also adds such things like Faceset support and nameboxes.
I personally like making text unskippable or go slower, I use it in my game. I don't see why it irks people tbh.
I get that they can read fast and don't want to wait, but it really isn't that bad, as long as it isn't like a 5 minute wait.
It can be used to good effect, I believe.

It can create a really nice '...' effect, which is what I'm revamping my dialogue for now. The script works really nicely, and even supports nametag and face features. I think if used differently it will create rage, though. I've already set the text speed to fastest.
If I have a cutscene where all the timings fit to music/etc., I like to make it delay properly and give the player zero control over the messages. I make it slow enough to read, but for those who have read it already there'll be pictures and other stuff to be looking at in the meantime. Outside of cutscenes, I'll use the command that pauses the text until the player hits a button to continue it. I find that one is the best for the fast readers.
