PICTURE STACKING FOR THE FRONT PAGE
Posts
I agree that one person shouldn't be able to monopolize the front page with eight very similar screenshots (or even very different ones, I think.) It seems that, if low-content blogs are a bad thing done by bad people, this should be too.
My point exactly.
@Link: I guess I should suck up to the guy who codes stuff so that he'll implement the suggestions I make for the forum as a whole.
On seconde thought, I'd rather not. If Ankylo refuses to code stuff or systematically dismiss all of my ideas on the premise that he doesn't like me , so be it. I think that would be to discourage member's implication in providing feedback on the basis that you need to be pal with Ankylo for things to be considered. Fuck that shit as they say.
Try having tact? Idk might work considering your antics only further impairs the front page you care so much about.
I'm not the only one who works on the site. The site belongs to kentona and he is more than capable of either implementing features he likes, or asking for help in implementing features.
I just think you spend way too much time harping about the front page and how everyone is "abusing the system".

We should all be friends, hold hands, just, use calm, rational language, and join together in achieving our one true goal: destroying saltw

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Overall I actually kinda like Creation's idea. I don't think anyone is intentionally abusing the system, they're just being dumb and boring about how they promote their own game, and the result is that the automatically-generated content on the front page becomes equally dumb and boring. It's not a big problem, but it'd be a clever thing to fix.
Limiting what they do to their own game is a little pointless, especially since posting multiple screenshots at once isn't by itself a bad idea. Making it so only the first (or last) screenshot you upload each day is shown in the Latest Images section solves the problem without interfering with users' games. Letting the user pick which image to send to the front page is even better, but is a lot more work for the staff to create that functionality, and probably not worth it compared to just picking one automatically.

People really need to get off about the Front page business, it's like not that important. It serves its purpose, and I never get the feeling that it's abused.
The images stack isn't a bad idea, but I know that the images section is going to be pushed anyways, if you miss good pics then you miss them, I'm sure you'll find your way to the "pretty" games anyways, without looking too hard.
But, a lot of people here already said what I'm feeling, so yeah.
edit: @Creation: I think people are tired of seeing this subject(the frontpage) like every time I see one of alterego's post I'm pretty sure 100% I'm going to disagree with it, because he kinda picks at shit way to deep. Just drop it, leave the frontpage be!

Sometimes I wonder what kind of world I live in when looking deep into things is seen as a failing rather than a quality. Specially when the alternative is-- What? What is being implicit here? Conformity? Apathy? ...Bah! Anyway, thanks for inviting me to the thread. ;)

On topic. This is a rather good suggestion, and not the first time it has been brought up either. I don't fully agree with Creation, though, in the sense that all images should be stacked. Sometimes a good couple of screens can help you to draw attention to your game. But in the other hand I really don't see any pros in a single person taking up all the space, no matter how rarely it happens, or how little people gives a fuck about the frontpage; It's the principle that counts... So how about this? Let images stack only if someone uploads more than three images in a row. I choose three because that's the minimum required for a profile to be accepted, but it could be more, I guess.
There are other opinions expressed on this thread that I like, for example: deleting duplicate images (Or too similar images, even.), making the 'Pic of the moment' random, removing the random images section, and making the frontpage shorter... No, seriously, think about it. Now that we have individual portals, there's no need for the frontpage to be larger than it was. Sections like 'random images' or 'highly rated games' feel more fitting for the Games portal rather than the page designed to keep up with only the latest stuff on the site.

Since when did "good organization" become a thing to bitch about when someone suggests it?
Organization on the front page is just as important as the actual games being created. If it looks ugly, you don't want to see if it looks worse when you click on other stuff.

If you don't like this suggested change, that's fine, feel free to post why. If you don't like the idea of people suggesting changes in general, and you try to discourage them from doing so, you are actively sabotaging the site. I feel pretty strongly about this.
It would be one thing if there were ten threads a day of ideas like this, and the admins only had time to read the good ones, and so you were trying to filter out the bad ideas. But it's only like one thread a month. If there's any chance it might be a usable idea or even help inspire a usable idea, it's not only worth posting but worth responding to.

The costs (efficiency of frontpage rendering and implementation time) do not outweigh the limited benefit of this, even though this is not a bad idea.

Fair enough!

If you are really that concerned that your images are being left out, why don't you just post another screenshot after the guy posts his?
The front page serves its purpose, leave it be.
@Cinderblock:
No.
I don't mind if you ignore me :), it's your right.
Look up when I last uploaded an image to the website then we'll talk.
Tact.Hmm… ok, let me try.
Darken, my dear, from what I’ve read and thus in my opinion, you’ve never really struck me as an individual who seemed to give a… hmmm… to ahh… to concern himself about formulating tactful replies so I find it a little surprising to say the least to be encouraged by your very person to be tactful. The only thing I said which might be considered as being tactless was the fuck that shit part which I couldn’t help, considering what I understood from Link’s reply.
(I hope I’m doing good so far because my first draft was a fair bit more direct).
Let me go on now:
The feedback section is to provide feedback. I know this might seem a bit self-evident but I just wanted to highlight that for a minute because any feedback is dealt with a hostile reaction by certain members.
Now that this is out of the way, let me explain further. If no feedback is wanted, then let us get rid of the section entirely but let’s not hold a double-discourse here. You either want feedback or you don’t. Since the section is still open, I will therefore come to the conclusion that you do.
Now that we have established that feedback is wanted, people who are unhappy with other members providing ideas should therefore stay out of this section of the forum as what they’ll find in the feedback section is actually feedback (sorry if that sounds patronizing or cheeky but you have to wonder sometimes).
To those members who don’t want to be involved in providing feedback to the forum, please let others who want to be involved in this do. I’m saying please out of politeness here because to be frank I’ll keep doing as I please but I just want you guys to understand that. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s too much or not enough. If you disagree, make your own suggestions but don’t try to discourage people who are taking some of their time to improve things around here.
With tact, yours truly.
Thank you in advance.

Are you confusing tact for eloquence?
I don't give shit to people I'm genuinely trying to provide feedback for. You ignore anklyo, screenshot yourself doing it, all for the purpose of pissing him off since he created the ignore feature. Even now you're doing a poor attempt at wit. If your goal is to improve the site, and your idea is to piss people off IN CHARGE of the site. This doesn't make sense to me, holding immature grudges doesn't help either. Yes ankylo is probably at fault too but that's all the more reason to stick to your "feedback" and nothing else.

This idea isn't a bad one, I'll just put that out there. It's a good idea, just not necessary, really it isn't.

If I really wanted to make use of the recent screenshot section, I'd look at the link above. That way I can see everything that has been posted the last week and so on.
I don't have a problem with people who give feedback, it's just the feedback being given is unnecessary, just extra work for the admins. It isn't needed when it's perfectly fine as it is, when there are things already in place for this kinda stuff. (like the link above, you don't really just look at the 8 screenies on the frontpage, right? Just go through the pages of the images section and see everything that has been uploaded recently)
The frontpage images rarely catch my attention, even in the old version, I usually hear about awesome/pretty games one way or the other as it is.

This is not about what's "necessary". Game profiles are not "necessary". We could just use forum post like all rm communities did before, and some still do. They serve their purpose, don't they? ...Game List Sorting was not "necessary". The ignore feature was not "necessary" (Though I warned you people that it was going to cause friction sometime. xD). Yet all these things and more get done...
This is not about the images section. Even when I think is great that there is finally a separate section for images, and numerous other portals for that matter, they're not the front page. What this is about is the practicality of the frontpage. (Even if some people don't pay attention to it, I guess we all can agree that it is of some importance to the site, right?) Well, if it can be more practical, it should.
Lastly, nobody has the staff working 24/7 at gunpoint. It's up to them to discern what gets done and when. But something I like to encourage and sometimes even demand, is a dialogue. I can't read minds, you know? I don't know if the only reason for an idea not to be implemented is because the people in charge doesn't like certain users. (Which is fuck'd up, btw) ...The staff should engage in honest, open discussion (tact is optional, really ;D) about the pros and cons of an idea and an estimation of how difficult it would be to implement it, before doing anything else. Seriously, sometimes all it's needed to avert all this 'drama' is an honest: "I'll see what I can do about it". Period.
Edit: @InfectionFiles: I hope you realize how self-centered and short-sighted your posts sound...

Game profiles are why the site exists. I'd pretty much say they are necessary.
Not that anyone actually listens to me, but I'll say it again. The site belongs to kentona. He can implement whatever ideas he wants. It has nothing to do with how much I like anyone. If it did, I wouldn't implement anything anyone asks for.

Hell yeah gameprofiles are pretty darn necessary, and quite important. This is isn't about the frontpage or the forums, it's the awesomeness that are game profiles.
Other won't agree, but I still feel the need to say it, I don't care about the frontpage, at all. My main project is rarely on the frontpage, everrry now and then, but hey I still get downloads, subscribers comments and all that. Makes me one happy camper.
I don't feel the need to strive and get on the frontpage, it definitely can help bring projects to light, but when it comes down to it just click the "Games" portal/page and that's the most important pages of this entire site.
And of course no one is forcing the admins, they can say no. But it's the point of suggesting pointless stuff to begin with that gets me. Those other features you mentioned alterego are totally not needed, buut they never existed before then, so you can't compare that to suggestions that just want to change how things work already.
