Greetings, I'll be quick:
I need someone who knows his/her way around VX, preferably with experience, and good communication skills.
The 411: This is a fan-made game based on the MLP: Friendship Is Magic franchise, non-profit, financed by me. Most of the mapping is completed, in addition to the spriting. Don't worry, I won't try to make you into a "brony". My approach to this is as serious and professional as possible, but with a relaxed atmosphere as well. Here are some (goofy and meta) videos showing the progress and showcasing the sprites and maps:

(The intro, made by myself, which I'm very proud of)

The story is already in place, happens in the middle of season two of the show. The player party consists of original characters to avoid messing with the official development of the Mane/main six protagonists. I am the producer/director/writer. I have a team of art designer, assistant mapper, musician and programmer.
I need someone who can help me design puzzles, spells, effects, stats; in general, work the numbers inside VX and make the game balanced and challenging enough. If you have a game or two under your belt, the better. Good communication skills and profesionalism are important. This is a non-commercial project, but I will pay you for your work, depending on what we agree. No time wasters. Deadline is one year from now.
Reach me at darthequus@gmail.com for all inquiries, as I check that one daily. I'm located in the USA, can and will pay you through Paypal.
Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon!

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

oh dear god
This overrated series confounds Nightowl to no end! Now a neon rod-wielding horse demands developers! Why, it is even worse than garage gook devouring my cupboard!
I'm not trying to stir the pot, just requesting to hire and pay someone to help me work the numbers to complete this game. Please, anybody who feels the confidence to assist with just another RPG, with a completed game or two under the belt, and would like to get paid putting their skills and knowledge to use, be so kind of contacting me.
You don't have to like the show. Just green, rectangular pieces of paper printed by the government that serve to purchase goods and services.
Thanks.

Couldn't pay me enough. I might starve but I'll have my dignity.
Your choice. I'll just go look for someone who'd like to get paid for their knowledge and expertise. Thanks for bumping up the thread, btw.

What you are asking for is, in my opinion, one of the easiest aspect of game design to do well. Do you really need someone else to work on this? If you've never tried to design stats and skills and balance a game before, I don't think you'd have a hard time getting the hang of it.
Just set some basic numbers, play-test them, than make the necessary adjustments to suit your objectives. Repeat for the next act and so on.
As for puzzles, we really seldom play anything truly new and different nowadays. The looks and presentation of puzzles might change widely from a game to another, but often the mechanics and rules remain the same.
Just play other games that feature puzzles and try to make similar ones.

I only hope you at least have the concepts for all those, 'cause if you don't, you can't call yourself producer/director.
I so want to do this, but im busy as hell and probably not as experienced/skilled as you would want.
Will play if it gets created though.

Mechanics design is something I like to imagine I'm pretty good at, and is easily my favorite part of game design, but those videos are kind of terrible. I want to make games people will actually play, and I'm worried they won't play this.
THAT SAID, I have had a moment of epiphany, in which I realized that I made $60 this week at my full time job, and made nothing the week before. I decided that my true life's goal isn't to make great games, it's to move out of my parents' basement. So, I am willing to sell out, given enough green slips of paper.
The key here though is "enough". I suspect the amount you're offering is not much, given the quality of mapper you were able to find.

Please don't make prejudiced assumptions, good sir/madam. 20 dollars is an insult to both parties, and I wouldn't dare to disrespect like that anyone who has the skills I want, especially when I have budget for this. You could have asked first.
I did all the mapping, writing of the dialog, story plan and such. Please ignore the first video, I admit the mapping was just done as a proof of concept. What would you want for your services if I hired you to help me make the game happen? Regardless if people play the game or not, you'll still get paid. Also, what's exactly wrong with the mapping? This is precisely the kind of reason I want to hire someone, because I can't take care of all details.
Easy as it is, I don't have the time to handle all the aspects of the game, as the dialog is taking a lot of time. I'd rather have someone with the experience and confidence that comes from having some games under their belt doing it.
That's exactly what I don't want. That's easy. Why copy and repeat what other games have done before?
The offer still stands. Anyone who can help me make this game happen, and has the experience, contact me at darthequus@gmail.com, or through PM here.
Thanks.

After all this, we're going to find out his "paid" work is like $20.

On seeing the subject heading, I was going to offer my services and experience or at least throw my hat in the ring of contenders, since from experience, getting paid to mak gam is better than doing it for free, and also design (short of mapping or making graphics) is right in my wheelhouse. However...
Then I saw the subject matter, and realized that I literally wouldn't even be willing to take your money to be involved in this brony bullshit, so great is my hatred for that entire ridiculous incomprehensible fad.
(I was offered a paid guest membership to promote my games at a brony themed con this year and said something similar.)
I am sorry, that all describes me perfectly but my utter loathing of everything brony related is just far, far too great.
AS AN ONGOING INTELLECTUAL EXERCISE BECAUSE IT FASCINATES ME, what do people think is a reasonable hourly or flat rate for paid work on an RM game you have no personal interest in?

I myself am not a fan of Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct, but if I was offered a job working on those games, I certainly wouldn't decline the opportunity. However, I see where you're coming from and can respect your choice. Thanks for your time, I'll keep on looking.
To answer your question, I was thinking of offering 300 to start.
Deals better results than expecting on someone to leave their life and job on the side to work for free.

For just mechanics, assuming I don't have to write any scripts myself, and you're not planning a 90 hour game with 35 unique characters, and you don't expect individually microtailored encounters where every single battle is a new experience with custom enemy movement and all that kind of bullshit that I keep trying to put in my own games and turning them into vaporware as a result, $300 actually sounds... sort of totally reasonable. Like, within the realm of "seriously tempting."
But then I have this feeling I'll end up trying to code FRIENDSHIP BATTLES where instead of fighting the enemy you have to use friendship-raising skills to become friends with them, and it'll spiral into a 12 month project or more, and then when it's over I'll still be too embarassed to claim credit for it because ponies.

So I realize I don't have much of a name in this community these days, but for what it's worth, DarthEquus is quite serious about this and a very professional individual to deal with.
I had offered my services to him for scripting in this project quite a while ago, nothing came of it and its probably for the best (my scripting skills are completely whack these days due to lack of practice) but I remember his name, the project, and the communication between us being professional and a pleasant experience.
In short, I would urge that people don't jump to conclusions regarding DarthEquus and the legitimacy of his project simply because of the subject matter.
Addressing DarthEquus: I know I didn't do anything for you regarding scripting (I don't really remember the reason for that? oh I looked into it, apparently I just stopped communicating with you. that was over a year ago though so no hard feelings?) and I am not willing to devote a large portion of my time to a project, but you are more than welcome to contact me if you want a consultation or to brainstorm some ideas. Either through RMN's Private Message system or through e-mail at fidler.steve@gmail.com
TL;DR: This guy is on the level, and worth your time if you're at all interested in taking the position.

Kind of curious about the numbers here to be honest, although I have no experience with RMVX. But I'm wondering how those numbers compare to something I might do in Unity.
"$300 to start" says nothing.
What sort of workload is involved? Are you asking for someone to work on a 60-hour epic, or a quick flash game? Exactly how much of the game design are you expecting them to create? This is the sort of stuff interested groups want to know.
$300 sounds outrageous and awesome, until you figure out that you're actually working for less than a dollar per hour on a project you don't particularly care for.
