SUGGESTION: RATINGS FOR EACH GAMES

I remember I started this debate over a year ago and suggested a few things. I had a few ideas (like Rated Comments (just like regular comments, but with a number!), and a Thumbs Up/Down buttons and counts) as ways to supplement the review rating system but I ran into some walls and to this day never really came up with a worthwhile implementation of this concept that would benefit RMN.

The conclusion I grudgingly came to was to put effort into getting more reviews using the current system, than grafting on a new system to RMN.

I am not sure if there IS an ideal online-rating system (or, more accurately, a single online-rating system that we would all agree with), but looking at it from another angle, RMN currently does have one, its workable, so let's make the best of it!

I guess what I am saying is:
1) Write more reviews
2) I am open to this concept but I am not sure if there is a fitting solution.

I'd like to see people write more reviews. Look at how successful the Nagademo review drive was! Hopefully that event showed users that writing reviews isn't very difficult/intimidating after all.
Thumbs up/down for comments/submission doesn't sound like too bad an idea. But you still have to deal with the issue that it would be next to impossible to keep all that in check, and "greifers" could get away with their own.

What I advocate is a controlled (contributors only) and transparent rating system. Just as you can see in peoples' profiles what games they have reviewed, to see what games they have rated. (In other words, divorcing ratings from reviews) And if any anomaly is reported, to look into it... I still favor a numerical system for this, though. Even when a five stars rating mean different things to different people, it is still a much better way to figure out a game's worth than a simple 'thumbs up/down' or a 'Like' system.

Another idea that has been floating in the air for some time is to provide a proper space to the act of giving feedback (Aimed at developers). Because thus far reviews (Supposedly aimed at players only) are a mix of both, sometimes one more than the other depending of whom you ask. The ability of rating a game could easily be shared with this practice...
